Thoughts on this MOT failure from 2020

Could have been chopped out and welded up properly. Could have been plated over leaving the rust behind. Could have been bodged up with gaffa tape and underseal. Absolutely no idea unless you get it on a ramp and have a proud around and look.
If it's a 500 quid car, then I wouldn't worry but I'd be of the understanding the rot might kill it on the next MOT.
If it's worth any decent money, I'd have it properly checked on a ramp.

I would generally assume that if a car has started rusting it will continue to do so. How well it is fixed just changes how long it will be before it needs fixing again. Of course it could last for another 20 years but you won't know without cutting it open to find out. Rust is like an iceberg, you only see the tip of it....
On the other hand if it something like an MX5 and you really want one then you might have accept that rust will become a part of you life
cant judge it from a computer screen , you need somebody under it that knows their stuff
could have had a rough mot spec patch lashed on that will last a couple of years or maybe an expensive repair to like new standards
would suggest to me that no one cared about it to catch it before it was a fail and let it carry on rusting away until forced to do something , if they didnt care it had rust holes in it ,then did they change the oil on time and look after it well ?

As previously mentioned, really you need to get it on a ramp to have a look. Perhaps it would be easier to look at other cars available?
I've used the same garage for as long as I can remember, they have flagged things as advisories in the past which don't get flagged anymore despite nothing being done about them.
Just because it's not listed as an advisory not doesn't necessarily mean anything has been done about it. Aren't alot if the tests down to the opinion of the tester?
