Toyota auris hybrid

Thinking about buying used Toyota auris hybrid for wife. But most of these cars have high mileage 70k -85k. Is it common for hybrid cars to have these sort of mileage? How reliable is this car? Or should I look something like Honda jazz? Her old car Suzuki alto had mot failed and had to sell it due to high repair cost wasn’t worth it.
Also the prices of used cars seems to have gone through the roof. Thanks

I had one myself, only sold it because of catalytic converter theft - the cat is stuck on the bottom of the car so very easy to steal.

They are just a Prius underneath, very reliable cars.

But if anything goes wrong with the hybrid system it will cost a lot to fix.

Batteries usually last at least 10 years and cost £2k for a genuine replacement. Genuine is the way to go as remanufactured packs don’t tend to last long.

Had a 2015 one with 230000 miles on it so they are good for mileage. One to watch for is if you get a missfire that doesn't appear to be a coil pack or plug it's just the egr ports in the inlet manifold blocking up, takes about an hour to remove clean and refit.

75-80k miles isn't high for a Toyota.

The hybrid system is proven over many years.

Nearly all private taxis where I live are Toyota hybrids.

I think worth checking MOT history carefully as mentioned above they are very often used as taxis. I believe that they still need 6 monthly MOTs as taxis so if it's been tested regularly that may be the reason.

My OH, mum and grandad each have one.

They are very cheap, reliable ways to get around. They do 50-60mpg whether in the city, on the open road or motorway and are very smooth to drive.

Interior quality and fit & finish wise they obviously feel cheaper than a BMW, Merc etc but comparable to a Focus or similar.

The only issue any of them have had is a broken hybrid radiator when a massive stone went through my OH’s on the motorway. Typically I was driving and got the £580 bill to replace it but I’m told by friends who work at Toyota dealers that I was just simply very unlucky!

Final point, the infotainment is bloody pre-historic. My C63 is 8 years older than my OH’s hybrid and it’s still better. No car play options either to my knowledge.

I was in the market for a Lexus Ct200h which is the same engine as an Auris which is the same engine as a Prius which is the same engine as the current generation Corolla.

The Lexus's are better equipped, and can be had for similar money if you keep your eye out.
