What car? Up to 25k

Have 25k to buy a car and wondering what options there may be ive overlooked...
I work from home, everything else I need is within a couple of miles so it will be a fun car.
Currently whittled it down to 2 cars, 370z Nismo & M140i/240i. A 640d is also an outside chance, havent driven one yet though.
Doesnt have to be 25k either, can be less.
I do love the Zed, but a couple of things worry me about it, 1) its quite harsh and loud inside 2) Theyre not 'that' fast.
Then the M140i, faster than the Zed but not as much of an occasion. Poor handling. But the interior is a much nicer place to be, perfect for them lazy drives where your not 'on it' but are just cruising around.
Im struggling between the 2 tbh, so any opinions on that, or other suggestions would be very appreciated.
Ideally RWD and more than 4 cylinders.

I'd personally be happy in either the 370Z Nismo or the M240i. I've had a F13 640d and it was a lovely car, but it wasn't exactly fun though. scottyfocus said:

By all accounts the sweet spot of the range is the V6 S which is just in budget, or if the cooking V6 is enough then you can get a lower mileage example.

Driven a 350Z and I own a 240i.
I wouldnt choose a 370Z over a 240i at all, I think they look great from outside but quite claustrophobic inside and the interiors are quite low rent compared to the BMW. I'd choose the 240i every time.
Now the twist- I also own a Porsche 986 Boxster. As a driving experience I'd choose a Posche every time over either car. I love my BMW as a daily, its almost perfect for it but for fun and driver involvement I'd choose the Posche.

I’m in a similar boat have just sold my boxster as it was aggravating my back and leaning towards a 370z. Had one when they first came out and fancy revisiting it. Test drove one recently and was a lot more comfortable for me but obviously not as tight as the boxster on the handling front but still fun.

It is a tough choice between those 2 I think. The 370Z has a LSD whereas the 240i has an open diff, so I'd put the 370 in front in that regard. Interior wise I don't think that there is much in it in my opinion. The 2 series interior is fairly ordinary(like most BMWs are in fairness) and you get the nice Recaro seats in the Nismo.
Then it becomes a choice of whether you prefer a NA engine or a turbo engine I reckon. So then I personally swing back more towards the 240i.

I do have test drives booked in for a Nismo and 140i tomorrow. Not planning on buying either of these particular cars though but a chance to refresh myself with them.
Loving the nismo v 140 debate as well! Would be interested to hear more opinions on that...

They're very different cars, the M1/240 won't be as sharp a steer a steer as the Nismo but it'll be the more relaxed steer with it's better midrange BUT stoke the Nismo (it has a much better gearchange then the BMW's) & it comes into it's own.
The Gen1 is the more raw out of the two, the Gen2 comes with more sound deadening & a slightly softer setup.

I haven't driven either the Nismo or the 240i, but I'd imagine the Nismo to be the more accomplished car to drive over a nice road. The M140/240i do come in for quite a bit of stick suspension and composure wise when the going gets tough from what I read.
The Nismo is the more sexy car to look at as well for me.

First of all thanks for the advice although I do feel I wasted your time lol.
Drove a Nismo, 1 x M140i and 2 x M240i.
Absolutely loved the Nismo, and the salesman was very chilled letting me get the back end twitching a bit. Its a really cracking car and I love that V6 engine. Definitely is a special weekend car for me.
But I've gone with the M240i. Got a nice 17 plate low miles with what seems like all the extras bar HK. Couple of things threw it for me:
1) The power, its just faster than the Zed - and much more tuneable.
2) Whilst not as 'hard edged' as the Zed it can still do the fun stuff BUT is a much nicer place to be for those 'chilled' drives.
Other than that its cheaper to insure and a lot better on fuel.
I do still think I'll find myself in a Nismo maybe a few years down the line.
