Air Jack

I have a Griffith but I guess this query applies equally to any low ground clearance car.
I think I have a mechanical jack in the boot which I have not used yet (there's tempting fate) and thinking pessimistically I was pondering that the need for a jack would happen in the rain, at night and on a muddy uneven surface.
Years ago I remember an air bag that was marketed which was put under the jacking point or suspension of a car (bag deflated) and then a hose attached to the bag was run to the exhaust pipe and the engine run at fast tickover to inflate the bag and lift the car.
Apart from there being a minor problem with connecting to a twin exhaust system and then the problem that any additional back pressure might blow the exhaust joints: Are the bags still on the market and has anyone used them?

I wonder if it might be a good thing to have in the boot.

Never used one personally, but they are still around (at least in the US)

What you need is a scissor jack.

I would be worried if it spread load from the chassis to the body shell, whick would not be ideal. Bit differen tto a folded metalk car where the jack points are massive in comparision to a few runs of tubing.
