Would be nice to get an answer on this before crying to ebay directly..

Vendor sends wrong item, I click "item not as described" and request vendor replaces, in between several attempts at asking "can I just use it" vendor sends post office return label marked "0-2kg" for a 15kg item, I ask for refund (and collection if they want it back,) vendor now states they can't find a courier to collect and they can't refund me due to me having a dispute open and I need to to close the dispute

1. I can't see any option to "close a dispute"?, and besides

2. Closing a dispute while I have an unwanted item sat in my porch and they still have 100 of my fine English £ seems to be putting the cart before the horse?

Get them to send a returns label of a suitable amount and tell them you'll send back the unused 2kg one with the item.

Similar thing happened to me,

Waited and escalated as I could not return due to weight issue like yours

Seller did not provide alternative. EBay refunded me eventually

And why can't the seller use the same courier who shipped the item to you originally?

I would say mostly because then they would have to refund the OP the correct amount.

Seller is being a knob but they are confused not to refund you whilst a case is open, if they don’t do it correctly you get 2 refunds and keep the item.

They should swallow the £ loss as they screwed up.

Christ on a bike, how do I contact ebay?

Online process is effectively logjammed by my inability to use the returns label the vendor has kindly provided. I feel the vendor is well aware of this..

Can you use the label anyway, and maybe the seller will cop the extra postage? If you can just pop it over the counter saying confidently 'eBay return please smile ' and dodge the weighing bit it might work.

You should be able to escalate the dispute after a certain number of days.

Photograph the return label and send it to ebay

Possibly, it's also 1.5M long, I don't see why I should waste my time and energy carrying/faffing with parking etc/queueing at the PO to have them probably reject it then carrying it home again. Would you?

Depends how much time and energy you'll waste trying to sort it out in other ways.

My PO is walking distance so yes I would.

It would be easier with Evri as they don't have scales, at least not in my nearest one.

Easy. Just click on the contact button, click whatever button is appropriate with the automated chatbot thing, then keep typing "advisor" and you'll be connected with a real person. I've found them to be excellent on the few occasions I've needed them to sort some out some issue.

You close the dispute, seller clams up, I’d put money on you not being able to re open the case, ergo, no refund.

Definitely dont close the dispute, I've made that mistake in the past, you are only supposed to close it if the dispute is resolved so as far as eBay are concerned if you close it then everything is good you can't open another dispute afterwards.

Finally after going round in circles in "help and contact" which is 99% articles I spoke to the online AI chatbot which was infuriating but eventually got an offer for a phonecall, lassie informs me vendor will issue correct return label, I inform her they won't beacsue they're an idiot and would have already but she says it's the procedure. I told her she should chase it up as they won't and I don't have the time or patience for this rigmarole and may just go straight to the card provider for a chargeback. She says she will.

Vendor messages me informing me I shouldn't have raised a case as she was going to refund me but now can't and oh, if I close it she can. Clowns have 98.9% positive , heaven alone knows how.

A charge back may fail if you do not go through the eBay procedures.

Stick with it and the refund should arrive via eBay after the deadlines pass.

And do not close the dispute until you have the money back, what ever the seller is saying!

Hello OP,

There are quite a few unknowns here such as how long you've had the chairs etc but I'll do my best!

If you want to be sure of an automatic refund then you need to play by eBays rules.

You are saying that the item you purchased is defective, in this instance it is the sellers responsibility to provide a courier label, however it is assumed that the buyer will facilitate the return by suitably packing the goods and enabling collection. If you don't meet your side of the bargain, it's likely you will not be refunded and be left with the chairs.

On the other hand, If the seller fails to provide a label (and upload the tracking) then you will likely be refunded and not have to return the item. This option will become possible when their deadline for sending the label has passed.

It may be worth sending another message to the seller, asking if they've had a chance to send you a return label.. This will be important if the case needs to be judged by a human (as will uploading pictures of the broken bits to your case).

You also say that you opened a "item not as described case" whereas I think it should have been an "item is broken or defective" case. I don't know if this could cause a problem but I've been a tad surprised (and burnt) in similar situations.

Considering it's a large amount, it may be worth speaking to ebay again. If you go to help then returns then automated assistant, then just type "Phone me" in the box you should get a call back from the returns dept within minutes. Check you are speaking to the returns dept, explain the situation and ask them to check your case is in order. Confirm whether the type of case opened will cause a problem, whether they can see the uploaded pictures and if they are sufficient, plus, ask then when the last day the seller can send a label is.

I'm not making any judgement, but I would always recommend being nice to the call handler.

From what you've said, you have more chance eBay will enable your refund than the chargeback.
