PlayStation plus
Discussion
Now the new PS Plus has been available for a few months I thought it’d be useful to have a thread to discuss upcoming games, gems you’ve found and anything else on the subscriptions service.
I’ve really enjoyed Stray over the past month and yesterday downloaded GTA Vice City which passed me by when it was first released so I’m really enjoying my first play though of that. I’ve played loads of overcooked with my Mrs too. Absolutely hilarious and stressful to play as a team!
Death squared is another great game for multiplayer. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before but essentially you all need to work together and communicate to get through a level.

I unfortunately got bounced straight into the premium option, got to wait 6 months to take it down to basic. Premium one only gives you a back catalogue of ps3 games and the like of which I have no interest in. Bit annoyed at that.
Playing through Far Cry 4 at the moment. Also downloaded a couple of the Assassins Creed games.

Yeah there seems to be loads of assassins creed games on there, probably all of them actually. I loved the original games but as they transitioned into RPG stuff with mythical powered weapons I lost interest. Origins looks a good example of something I’d not buy for the reasons mentioned but I’ll definitely give it a go on PS plus.
I’m on the top tier too but think I’ll go middle at renewal. There really aren’t many games in the classics catalogue to justify the added premium.

Well I started to play Red Dead Undead Nightmare - sadly they have now removed it.....
Yeah I saw in August they’d slated it for removal so I prioritised it so I could get through. I tried to look for what’s being announced for removal at this month’s game release but can’t find it. Anyone found a solid resource announcing the games in multiple categories and the removals? I genuinely loved Death Stranding, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea as the combat is s
te and the writing is peak Kojima but it pure stayed with me for a while after I finished it.
I noticed Syphon Filter is in the classics catalogue, might have to go back and have a bit of nostalgia with it.

Started playing Death Stranding as an included game yesterday. I’m finding it quite hard work. Anyone know if it’s worth persevering with - I couldn’t find a dedicated thread on here?
I thought it was the weirdest game ever and then it turned into a walking sim, so I gave up after a couple of hours....Jasandjules said:

Despite owning all the PlayStations since, well, PlayStation I’d not played any ratchet & clank until last year and thoroughly enjoyed it so I’m quite chuffed at this addition.

I got sucked in ... it's not perfect but somehow it dragged me into its gameworld (and I wasn't a massive Kojima fan .. I really did not like MGS4 after all the hype). Might have been the lovely landscapes ... as with Horizon Zero Dawn which uses the same engine, they really made me feel like I was there. Still not completed it though as I got distracted after a few weeks as I so often do, but recently picked up the upgrade to Directors Cut (PC) so I will make an effort to get back in and play til the end. Need to finsih Deathloop first though, which I'm currently playing on PC Gamepass.I toughed it out to the end of Death Stranding as I felt like there was maybe a good game in there. It’s a deeply flawed game and a bit of a conceit from the designer.
It starts off as a walking simulator, morphs into making you white van man logistics & delivery merchant and finally you become an alpine ski lift system designer and installer. Then you get to the endgame which is a minimally interactive 4 hour cutscene where they try to do the exposition of the whole weirdness in the backstory.
The major issues I have with it is the dependency on cutscenes for every minor action (get into/out of a vehicle - which you’re required to do thousands of times) - there’s a non-shippable cutscene for that. Performing the essence of the game - delivering goods - requires about 20 clicks & hold-clicks to skip through the analysis.
Also the combat is utterly terrible. The opponents are laughably bad and you’re required to swap weapons to defeat some of them - but the weapon swap is a ridiculously tortuous process.
The game world makes no sense whatsoever and the story is self indulgent crap.
If someone had reined in the designer and made a few critical tweaks to gameplay and environment then it would have been so much better. I’ve never played a Kojima game before, it all seems a bit conceited.
It’s very telling that the game is split into 15 chapters each of which gives you an achievement, so it’s possible to see that 50% of players didn’t get past Chapter 2 and only 25% saw it through to the end.

It's a very marmite game, I have friends who revere it as the best game experience they've had. I never played a Kojima game before, MGS passed by me completely, I had high hopes. Whilst the gameplay was unique and interesting, the story was so cliche I just couldn't continue. Expected a lot more
