Don't think you can argue with the top few.

But Fangio behind Villeneuve, in terms of titles and races won, no way, but in terms of how close they were to Enzo Gilles would be higher surely.

No Vettel is interesting, or Leclerc. or Massa who was a near title winner and arguably one of the most popular drivers in the team in recent times.

But based on results alone I guess this is pretty close, but again how is Gilles ahead of the bloke that won the title, Jody!!

Really like this, and the refreshing assessment of a ranking that isn't just a stats comparison.

I think that Jean Alesi is a raw talent that needed a place on the list somewhere, and as much as I'm a Kimi fan, he is objectively a little too high in the list judging his performances in the red cars.

Top 4 is correct. The rest is arguable enough not to care.

Better discussion earlier in the year in one of Kev's Top Ten Autosport podcast.

Hard to argue against the top 5, below it its a very subjective free-for-all.

In fairness Jody had two years. He jumped in what was arguably the best car and then became a lame duck the season next happily collecting his paycheck with a WDC under his belt; Gilles was soldiering on driving "Cadillacs".

What did Vettel ever accomplish at Maranello? He mounted a poor title challenge as well as being hindered by Merc's better in-season car development.

Prost managed a title showdown at the tail end of the 1990 season and had Alesi and Mansell under his thumb.

Kimi, similarly to Jody, was never the same driver after 2007 and winning WDC.

Massa came exceedingly close but as with Webber was more of a number 2 driver on the whole.

Leclerc shows potential but needs to put a whole season together with very minimal unforced errors.

I enjoyed the video but would put Prost higher. He performed wonders in 1990. 1991 isn't relevant due to the machinery but even then France 91 was classic Prost.

Despite constantly butting heads with Cesare Fiorio he nevertheless managed to bring a lot of the McLaren work ethic to Maranello and but for Mansell in Estoril and of course Suzuka 1990 he would probably have won that title. He was extremely consistent and fast and it was a championship level season. Had that happened I'm sure the future could have been quite different.

No Jacky Ickx, who would be well above CLC or Massa, and should be above JV, IMO
