I transferred funds yesterday to a dealer for a 2016 MX-5, my first. They are a well known company in Liverpool.

As part of the deal they said they would get one of the wheels refurbished. However, they have just phoned me to say they can't get it refurbished as Mazda wheels can't be done by their local guy. It's a specialist paint used by Mazda - apparently.

Are they being entirely truthful and accurate in what they say please?

It's one of these

Is it just the one wheel ?

As long as the colour is the same, do you think anyone will notice if it is a different type of paint ?

I think matching the colour is an issue as well as the specification. I'd like it to be exactly the same colour as the others.

I think they're being honest with you. I took a wheel (same as yours) for a refurb at a local place with a very good reputation and they wouldn't do it unless I got all four done.

The paint is apparently very hard to match, it's something called 'black chrome' or similar and I think it literally is spraying the wheel black then spraying numerous layers of chrome over the top.

I just bought a brand new set of wheels but I wouldn't recommend that.

Shadow Chrome! That's the one.

I've heard the same thing, which is a shame as two of mine have become kerbed. No sense in pointing fingers etc...

They show up on eBay new for sensible money now and again, but unless you want the car perfect I'd squeeze some money off and spend it on unleaded instead driving

Might be cheaper and better in the long term to get all 4 done in silver then easier to match and cheaper to refurbish when you kerb them.
