Round 19 and we’re in Austin for the USA GP, usually a good race. The circuit is bumpy, but has been resurfaced, so that might make it a difficult weekend for Mercedes. It looks like another Red Bull win as the RB18 seems to work well in all conditions now, and it will almost certainly wrap up the WCC this weekend.

It will be interesting to see if the weekend (and this thread) will be about racing or accounting. Let’s hope it’s the former.

Max wins for me, probably a Red Bull 1-2 as teams starts to focus on the 2023 cars.

Here’s to a great race.

What's the latest on the state of this circuit?

Last I read was pre season and Moto GP furious about it, demanding it was resurfaced. As per usual I think they just patched it here and there.

Could be particularly awkward for these new cars of its excessively bumpy.

Maybe he could turn up at the RB motorhome and ak if they've got any spare food... "We're tight on budget, please Christian.. can I just have one of those £300,000 chicken salads you've got?"

I suspect the team that cheated last season have the fastest car so will win.

Ferrari suspected they would win when they cheated too. But they're Ferrari, so they managed not to.

The state of the circuit is likely to be a big story with these new cars. It’s not been completely resurfaced from discussion I’ve seen, MotoGP were complaining back in April about the surface, despite a lot of winter resurfacing having taken place. We could well see a repeat of the bouncing that we saw earlier in the season, at the bumpier tracks like Canada. Let’s hope not, although one team in particular will be happy to talk about anything other than their financial problem, that’s going to be the main story of the weekend again.

If the track is bumpy the Mercs have no chance.

True. If only there was a way to bring untold upgrades to unlock a title winning car... scratchchin

Gonna be a late one for me as I'm 2 hours ahead of the UK; at least it means I'll have both days to actually do/get stuff done and then watch it all in the early hours - god knows what it's going to be like when they get to Vegas next year, that'll be even worse.

Anyway I reckon Max will continue to dominate until end of the season, Perez vs Charles is where the attention is now, and as much as I want Charles to do it, I think Perez is determined enough to secure 2nd in the WDC. Would be good to see another team up there; Apline were looking pretty strong in Japan.

I guess you could just spend untold $$$ and obfuscate any record of that spending but no self-respecting team would bend the rules to that extent now would they...

You're right. Any team that would choose a route like that would show a complete lack of sporting integrity.

Should see a pretty familiar order here with Mercedes 3rd fastest. Maybe they're able to challenge Ferrari on race pace?

I'm sure it's a Verstappen pole and win barring misfortune / any shenanigans (I don't really trust that the sport is uncorrupted by its value as an 'entertainment' product anymore).

Alpine vs. Mclaren should be interesting to the end of the season.
Will Aston Martin's upward trajectory continue?
Can Perez really finish ahead of Leclerc in the WDC?
Russell ahead of Sainz?

Mclaren should have the rest of the matching bits for their upgrade package here so hopefully they don't have as bad a time with nailing the setup window.

Now it gets interesting. Forget the on-track stuff. It's the politics that will now take centre stage. And, in F1, politics matter!

I can't wait! hehe

Lots of us would much rather it be just about the racing.
