Hi All.
I'm just starting a small business. It's leasing assets - a small number, about 100 in total.

So every month, people pay me, occasionally there will be damage and admin charges. I guess in total there won't be more than 150 odd invoices a month. As I say, it's a very simple business.

So I don't want a massively complex accounting system, What do people recommend, an why?

Many Thanks

Would it be sensible to get one that also posts depreciation on a monthly basis so you can at least understand if you are profitable or not?

We use Xero- i particularly like the automation of sending repeat invoices, the ability to very very easily reconcile the bank, and the automation of creditor invoices. Its about £25 a month but saves me probably 5-8 hours per month. It also deals with MDT if you are vat registered.

I only have experience of quickbooks, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Do you have a business bank account? Check if they offer 'free' accounts software, NatWest do, Barclays do.

Quickbooks - terrible, avoid.
Sage - Sage cloud is good now, Sage 50 is more 'traditional' - I like it, but then I've been using it in our accountancy practice for donkeys years, I'd say it's more suitable to experienced/traditional book keepers and accountants. It's expensive though.
Xero - I'd recommend this for your needs.
