Round 17 and we’re returning to Singapore after a two-year hiatus. Max can win the championship if he outscores Leclerc by 22 points, Perez by 13 points and Russell by 6. Max will be aiming for his 6th win in succession and the 12th of the season; quite a thing when most think the Ferrari has been the fastest car at points during the season.

Singapore is a fast(ish) street circuit under lights, so expect the Ferrari and (maybe) Mercedes to be closer to the RB18 but at this point in the season don’t expect any major upgrades and it will be business as usual; Max to win.

Ricciardo seemed to check out in Monza and I can’t see any improvement here, I think he just wants out and a chance to lick his (self-inflicted) wounds. Albon may be back in the Williams but he was properly poorly and three teams would like another look at de Vries, so I’d not be surprised if Alex sits this one out.

Here’s to another great race.

Was it really only two weeks? Seems like a month.

It would be nice, if just for the sake of variety, to see someone other than Verstappen winning

Let's say Leclerc has an issue and is out of the race, you think Red Bull would retire Perez to get Max the championship scratchchin

No. Why would they with 5 rounds left? RB want more performance from Perez, not less

Great to see the return of Singapore, after a couple of years off for the you-know-what. A great race to attend in person, although sadly these cars don’t turn the whole city into a wall of reflected sound as the pre-2013 cars did!

Thanks to @Piginapoke for these threads as always.

Sadly I’m going to be away all week, lying on a beach with no wifi until Saturday night, so will have to catch up on everything just before the race on Sunday!

I doubt it as they want to win the constructor’s championship as well.

Ha ha! You’re not the first person to say that to me this week biggrin

First proper holiday in at least half a decade, and first time on a plane since the pandemic started - to a little desert island in the middle on nowhere, five days with a book and a cocktail, properly switched off rather than being online 18 hours a day. Can’t wait!

The weather may play a big part in the quali/race this year. We’ve seen significantly more rain here in the last several weeks than is usual, so a strong possibility of some over the weekend. Pic below shows today’s weather satellite with typical slow moving storms…

I was going to post this myself; it's been going from scorching hot one day to monsoon all day the day after. Mostly stopping before race start time though, so we may be lucky. Wet weather may add a bit of jepardy to the race, but standing in the rain drinking $15 beer sucks.

I would opt for a balcony in Raffles Long Bar with a Singapore Sling if it still exists. You can go the whole hog and get outrageously anti-establishment by throwing some groundnut/peanut shells on the bar floor in disgust if any part of the race is not to your liking - with impunity... biggrin

Isn't it one of those circuits and climates that means rain would just mean a delay/cancellation rather than anything exciting?

Two laps behind the safety car then award half points? silly
