Calm down.
There is an ongoing dispute within the Campbell family about the appropriatness of restoring Bluebird. I would be hesitant about allocating Lottery money to a project which could be delayed and possibly blocked completely by court action.
Campbell was one of my boyhood heroes and personally I would love to see Bluebird run again - but his ex-wife does have a say in these matters.

Fair point but why did the Campbell family agree to have the boat raised in the first place then. I would have thought that the Campbell family must have had some inclination that once the boat was raised and secured, it was obvious that the salvagers or owners would want to restore bluebird .

I suspect the family agreed to it because his body had never been recovered.
As it turned out Bluebird was recovered in March 2001 and Campbells remains in May the same year.
On a similar but slightly different issue, it was only recently that the punjabi / hindu WW2 veterans had their own war memorial. A friend of mine was part of the group who got together the donations and forced the MOD to actually have their own war memorial....(they had nothing , other than the one for the unknown soldier! And that means no names mentioned on anything else!)
One little snippet of information stunned me - of all of the non-UK divisions fighting, they are the one country who didnt have their own war memorial. Many of whom got DSO's etc....
Quite stunning that we dont salute these people yet offer Gypsies £500k legal aid.... I know who I would like to support....

Donald Campbell's widow was very much against looking for Donald and his boat. She suffered much trauma back in 1967 and didn't really want to have to live through it all again. She was eventually persuaded by other members of the Campbell family to allow the search to go ahead - although she then stated that she hoped no one would try to restore the boat if it was found. Whether she has since been persuaded to agree to this I wouldn't know but she has huge reservations about the whole enterprise.
I admire Campbell and his determination immensely and I am fascinated by the story of his doomed record attempts on Coniston.
But whilst I can see a couple of hundred thousand being spent, £600,000 seems like an awful lot.
After the forces of the impact and nearly quarter of a century under water, there must be precious little of the original craft that could properly be used as anything other than an exhibit.
If the intention is to create a vessel that can be demonstrated, if not at 300mph, then at maybe half that speed, then perhaps it ought to be constructed from scratch.
Campbell's boat was a real bitsa in any event. It had been chopped about no end and had been through a number of engines. It is impossible to restore something that never had any "originality" about it in the first place.
Why blow £600,000 to create something that might only be used to trundle around the lake a couple of times and then be stuffed in a museum?
I think that the boat should be cosmetically restored for a fraction of the £600,000 and then be displayed.
Incidentally, there is a passable, though rather loose replica of K7 on display at Holker Hall, which was created for the Anthony Hopkins film "Across The Lake".
When are they going to repeat that? I would love a copy on VHS or DVD...
