Hi all, so I accidentally bought an Integra Type R DC5 yesterday. Yes, whoooops, but wife is now ok about it, so all good smile

Its a 51 reg in silver. It was at a classic car auction, bought it without seeing it as I left a probing bid well under estimate, which the seller took, so it's coming my way!

So, few questions. The seats look a bit faded on the bolsters and maybe mishapen. Also want to get the car checked over once it's here so looking for a Honda specialist who will know the car as near me as possible, Im in Hertfordshire, near Hertford/Harlow/Ware, on the border with Essex.

Not my first Honda, had a new S2000 back in 2007 for 8 years, amazing thing, always wanted to try an Integra Type R, so will try it out but have other cars so will probably move it on at some point, trying to own some cars I wanted to have back in the day just to tick them off the list!

If interested, it was lot 130 at Brightwells classic aucions this week, here: https://www.brightwells.com/timed-sale/5338/lot/58...

What should I be looking at, checking, changing, getting serviced, replacing, etc etc? thanks all

Rust!

Rear arches and behind the door cars, also in the spare wheel well and around rear bumper. I only discovered a huge hole in mine when I could see light through the arch into the boot.

Valve clearances, chain slap and good servicing. Then the usual worn clutch, crunchy gears. Good tyres and good geo makes a huge difference.

At this age suspension bushes will be tired, good excuse to upgrade to hardrace items.

Fellow DC5 owner! driving

As above, check for rust. Rear arches are the main place, but also on the inside of the arches (remove rear speakers to check for that).

Rear light seals are renowned for perishing and letting water into the boot, so pull up the boot floor and check for signs of rust under the spare wheel. Replacement gaskets are available and don't cost that much. O2 sensors seem to fail often (mine's getting that changed at the moment!), and it's a wideband sensor so different to the EP3 Civic.

Bolster wear on the Recaros is very common. There's a place called Capital Seating that does replacement foam and some of the replacement fabrics.

Generally the engine is bulletproof, you do want to have the valve clearances checked around every 25,000 miles though.

Silver DC5s seem fairly rare; most of them seem to be in Championship White or Arctic/Vivid Blue (mine is Arctic Blue).

I'll recommend R2 Automotive in Tilbury, Essex, for all your Honda needs. I don't go anywhere else.

Very knowledgeable guys with great customer service. They also own a few Hondas of their own which includes a DC5 and S2000.

You can check out their FB and Instagram or you can pop along to their annual barbecue on the 2nd of October to meet the team and mingle with other like minded car owners to get a feel of what they offer.

Nice - Can you start a Reader's Cars post once you've got ownership, I'd love to know more about how you get on.

It really isn't. Finding a good one for the money you have may be though. There are at least 3-4 on sale that are mint but they are at the top of the price range for DC5s.

At the moment everyone has their cars up for top money but I've been watching them for weeks and very few are selling. 2 reasonable ones didn't get a bid at 10k on eBay recently. The winter is closing in and half the world is worried about the cost of living. 'Low cost' toys like this are in a bad position IMO. Buyers have some spare cash for such cars but are the most likely to put off their buying decisions until new year to see how their own finances will hold up. Don't overpay for anything right now.

I’m holding out, I want a very good condition totally stock example. I don’t see any of those for sale at the moment that are not advertised for silly money.

If anyone knows or has one for sale, please do let me know
