Got a slow puncture and am losing maybe 8psi every 5 days, slowly getting worse.

Got the tyre in the bath and found the leak, not in somewhere that can be repaired

But looking at the inside of the tyre, there is some damage to the inside sidewall as well

If you open the crack it doesn't go down to the carcass, I think it's just the rim protector.

I got the wheels second hand last year and I'm *guessing* the tyres been driven on flat? Or maybe caught a big bit of debris? Thoughts welcomed.

I'll probably swap the tyre - has nearly 5mm of tread but is a budget brand.

Good job you had that bath to help you track down the leak. Otherwise with no clues apart from that gaping hole in the sidewall you might have been looking for it all day.

The leaks not from the sidewall, and not visible on the car without x ray vision, but thanks anyway.

It looks like that has either been kerbed when very low or driven on when flat, it can't be repaired so needs replacing.

225/40/18 is a popular size and therefore cheap tyre to buy.

Unless you plan on keeping it for LESS time than the life of the existing tyres anyway? Get two new premium ones fitted and have the full benefit of them between now and until you decide to part with the vehcile, instead of later on down the road when they are badly worn and you need new tyres to sell it (and someone else gets the benefit)
