It’s often been said over this weekend that the Queen attended the first Grand Prix at Silverstone. Her late husband was a friend of many Grand Prix drivers in the 1950s. Her daughter winning her BBC title of Sports Woman of the Year when Jackie Stewart was Sports Man formed a long lasting friendship that Queen Elizabeth shared. Jackie being a proud Scot and the Queen being a Scot in many ways. They shared many happy and laughter times together.
Jackie has often said he’s seen the Queen serving food and washing up after an event he’s organised.

The Royal Family’s presence in the business world meant many of the Formula 1 teams had visits to their factories over the years by representatives of the Royal Family.

Likewise the British Racing Drivers Club has had many representatives of the Royal Family in their governing positions.

I’m sure that the relationship will continue as the Royal Family appreciate the high standard of British sportsmanship in the current formula and the high standards of British Industry that are displayed in every Grand Prix.

I was in the paddock at Brands on Saturday and Sunday.

It was very moving on both days to see everyone in the paddock observe the 2 minute silence. Very impressive.

As far as I'm aware, The Queen was not a great motorsport fan. She attended very few motor sport events during her life.

The first Grand Prix held at Silverstone was actually in 1948, not 1950.
