C5 can't outrun a 3-Series Beemer
Discussion
Thanks for the info. Don't think I've got time to go and change my Vette for a Beemer this weekend, maybe next.
In case anyone's getting confoosed - E4 means it was on telly...
Perhaps the Beemer had a Z06 lump in it...
Maybe the C5 was actually a Cortina based kit car replica.
Maybe the C5 was on flat runflats...
Perhaps, in all reality, old BMW 3 series are actually THE PERFORMANCE BARGAIN OF THE DECADE!

was it a 325i? as they are quick i had one a few years back, or maybe the C5 driver wasent trying
Thats funny as I remember my old Supra of the same era whooping the 325's with ease. Damm I shouldn't have bought the vette, should have kept the Supra. If I realised what a down grade I was making........
To beat a C5 it must have been a bit like this.

Back in the 90's I was on the way to Le Mans in my '73 and came up behind a series 3. It was a wooded twisty B or small A road, real nice drive. When the traffic cleared I couldnt keep up with him and concluded that 25 year old suspension was never going to make me favourite - nonetheless it was rapid (I was trying) and it was not an M3.
Now there are times when you make a post without engaging brain. As well as the C5 I have a series 3 Beemer too. Its only a 320 but it has the 6 cylinder engine of the the 325 and 328 (maybe that is a 330 now). It does handle VERY nicely and it is not slow but it is not in the
C5 league and it maxes out, as you say, in 328/300 spec. at around 200BHP. But the M3, in 1998-2004 guise pushes out 350 BHP and I would guess has little if any weight penalty over the C5. So maybe this car was a debadged M3? I am sure you can tell an M3 from the rear by the exhausts and no doubt the tyres are wider too

Blimey, I'd forgotten I'd posted this!
Er, yes. Sorry, E4 is a satelite TV channel. One Tree Hill is an OKish US import TV programme (think Dawson's Creek meets the OC).
No sign of the 'Vette in this weeks episode, just a Saab 93 ragtop. Probably just as well the 'Vette wasn't around as it wouldn't see which way the Saab went
