Hi all

Beginning to eye up the possibility of purchasing a car/jeep/van as a tow car for a car trailer and generalised work horse.

Minimum towing capacity needs to be at least 2000kg but the full monty 3500kg is welcome

I'd really much prefer a petrol as opposed to a diesel and Ulez complaint but its not a total deal breaker.

Originally I wanted a cheap Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 but they are rapidly going up in price to the point where I don't think I'd want to spend £3k+ on one when £5k would get me into a 5.7 instead. Speaking of Jeeps, I have also considered putting the petrol preference to bed and looking at either a 3.0 V6 diesel Jeep or Mercedes ML320 as I know that engine quite well.

With the budget creep (and my habit for playing automotive bork roulette) a L322 Range Rover with the 4.2 S/C engine is a bit of a favourite, but I know deep down that I'd probably regret it and need a hand steering me in a more sensible direction

Any suggestions much welcome

Ta! smile

Not sure about the weights, but used to tow my sons race kart and trailer with an XC90 and found that to be very good - also had a huge boot which also helped

We have had 2 XC90s as tow cars (1500kgs caravan) and they are very good.

Think towing limit is 2250 kgs.

However the auto box is annoyingly slow and some are the high tax rate.

Think it's rare to find a large SUV with decent towing limit which isn't £500+ tax a year.

Here's one smile
