Anyone else watching it in Disney+ ?
It's a fly on the wall documentary of and Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds take over of Wrexham football club.
I'm enjoying it even though I have no interest in Football
Yeah watched the first two. Likewise not interested in football but Wrexham is my home town (unfortunately!).It's a fly on the wall documentary of and Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds take over of Wrexham football club.

I was expecting a bit of "poverty porn" with them swooping in as the saviours but actually thought it was really respectful. The intro sequence of Wrexham's glory days and the demolition of the old heavy industry had me a little nostalgic.
Made me laugh that they have subtitles but I guess it's pitched at a global audience.
I'm not particularly a football fan, but better them than some of our other foreign buyers I hope. I thought it was quite interesting, particularly that the two guys hadn't physically met previously. I'd also like to know what they told the fans to get such a high vote for, and what their exit plan is when they start languishing in one of the middle leagues.

Exactly. I've no interest in football or Wrexham, but really enjoyed the first two episodes. It's a fly on the wall documentary of and Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds take over of Wrexham football club.

I think not being interested in football gives you a interesting perspective, because Rob any Ryan also know nothing about football. You're kind of on the same journey!
A proper football fan might have a more cynical view of a Hollywood take over. That said the decision to sell to them was near 100% for.

The subtitles are definitely needed in some parts, especially for international viewers!

Binge watched this past 2 nights, it’s good! I’d hope they get more fans on the back of this doc.
I’m more familiar with Robs career than Ryan’s having been an avid always sunny fan from the early days.
I'm also a fan of "Always Sunny...", but I would imagine a lot of Wrexham fans must have had no clue who he was!I’m more familiar with Robs career than Ryan’s having been an avid always sunny fan from the early days.
The episode showing the past owner (Hamilton) was good. You can see why the fans are so happy with the buy out and the future of Wrexham. They are pouring some serious money into the ground and the planned new stand looks good.
Rob was like a kid a Christmas when they finally got the freehold and could begin.
I'm from Wrexham and a Wrexham fc fan. We moved over to Spain a few months before the takeover, so its great for us to watch. I know a few who have been on the show so far.
Luckily for us, the team were summer training near us in July. A really nice bunch of lads to talk to, as was the manager. Paul Mullin gave me his boots and signed them, which was a bonus. I have them in a glass case in my bar at home.

I wonder if the documentary is funding a lot of it?
I'm sure it is very much part of the business model for the take over. Makes a lot of sense though. My guess would be that Rob and Ryan have put in a couple of million each for the purchase (Pocket change for them), then they are able to run the club off the usual ticket / merch sales alongside the doc as the other revenue stream.
Asset value skyrockets in the meantime and Rob / Ryan don't have to keep pumping money into the club on a monthly basis to keep it going (Like most rich owners have to). Genius really.
They've been struggling with merch sales. Nobody anticipated the level of interest that the documentary would cause, so replica shirts have been hard to come by. As soon as a batch arrives, it's gone! I gather this is one of the things they've got to address next season, if not before.
As a lifelong Wrexham fan (don't shoot me...), I'm really pleased about what Rob and Ryan have done for the team - and the wider community. This team was on its backside not very long ago, so it's great to see the difference these two have made. What they're giving to Wrexham as a community can't be measured in pounds and pence.

I don't watch much TV these days but just binge watched this in 3 sessions over the last week. Brilliant, really enjoyable. Cheesy in places but then you have to take into account the audience it's aimed at. R & R come across as more likeable than I expected and seeing them totally lose it when celebrating goals does indeed look like they "got the bug". Certainly seems so.
Refreshing to see the lives of players who aren't the usual "millionaire before they're 21" premier league players. I guess Wrexham will be the 2nd team for a lot of footy fans after this series (me included). And definitely a lot more popular in the USA than many other teams ranked higher. Good on 'em.
