Well, 22 minutes in and it's clear that almost every cliché and politically correct box has been ticked, with clunky acting and a dodgy script as an added bonus. The only thing left available to the writers is a scruffy, Chinese, alcoholic, transgender murderer in a wheelchair, with mental health issues. FFS. So early on, it's clearly no Line of Duty. The only thing that'll save it is if the new DI gets the wrong end of a shotgun and Ridley takes over. I may not be up to giving it any more of my time though.

Total sh!te load of box ticking bingo. Somehow managed to make it through the singing (toes curled, teeth clenched and hands over face for that bit), then shortly after that the ‘dramatic twist’ that the female DI is in a same sex multi cultural relationship. And that was me done.

It was like a fully inclusive episode of Vera but without the laughs, and directed by dance troop Diversity having a one off and hugely unsuccessful stab at a tv drama.

Unless Ridley's entire career was full of unsolved cases I do not see how a civilian will continue to be invited to help with enquiries for future episodes.

We enjoyed it.

If we wanted real life we'd watch the news.

I enjoyed it too - just take it as a typical Sunday evening detective drama that fills 2 hours, like some of the previous ones like McDonald & Dodds, Murder In Provence, etc, and it's perfectly watchable.

One of the online TV reviews had done a pretty funny review questioning how many TV detective dramas from the UK & US the writers had been binge watching before writing the scripts and listed all Ridley's traits and which detective dramas had the same, before also querying whether Ridley could be arrested for identity fraud hehe

I think the list included New Tricks (retirement angle), Wycliffe & Dwayne Pride (NCIS New Orleans) (playing the piano in a bar / club), grieving for wife & daughter (various shows but more recently Dalgliesh), a past case he never solved before retiring (loads of shows there including Monk), not a team player (again various shows fit that but obviously Morse), etc hehe

A bit behind on Ridley.
Just watched episode 1
Thought it was very watchable but as others have said very cliched.
Will watch the rest but 2 hrs per episode is a bit of a slog. Others would have had each episode as a series!

Clearly ITV have learned lessons after people were tuning out five minutes before the end wink
