Hi Guys, bought a new 111s few months back and it is 99.9% fantastic, BUT, I have a mega rattle on the driver's side just behind the seat, about ear level (which is pretty low as I'm not exactly Elle
McPhearson!) Been told by Lotus it's the water pipe from the engine to the radiator that's rattling - not convinced. Tried to tape up twice now but it's still there and doin my head in - just means the stereo has to be up loud!!! Anyone had similar rattle, what is it and what'ya done about if have?

Does seem odd that they are claiming a rubber pipe could be making a rattling noise, have they tried to fix it? or did you tape it up yourself? I'd give them the car for a day and let them tighten everything and *road test it* until its sorted! cowboys.

Garage had it back twice - going back for 3rd time next week. 1st time was better for a while, then back with a vengeance. Second time, it's worse now than when I bought it! I am tempted to take the seat out and have a gander myself but bit nervous if I cock it up, but then again suppose I can't make it any worse.

she lost her make up under the seat hence the rattle or could it be the one she threw from the pram

I'm having the same prob...ear level on the right. I'm 98% it's the rear window as when I press it when we're on the move it stops...but I don't know how to cure it as it's supposed to be bonded in place and not clamped in??

Mac

I had the same problem on a new 111s. I was convinced it was door or window. It turned out to be a pipe running along the drivers sill. Dealer, used filler foam? Solved staright away. Hard to describe the noise, like a clang!

Hi Guys,

I'm crossing camps a bit here but thought I might chuck in my 2 pence worth....have you tried the rear aluminium splitter/undertray just behind the rear wheel drivers side? I've just sold my elise MK2 and had what seems to be the same problem and spent weeks trying to track it down...to see if it is this hit the bottom half of the rear wheel arch with your palm to see if you can make it zing/rattle and then if it does, bend the aluminium inwards a touch.

Cheers

my eleise is an S2 2001 model - will this coolant pipe still be an issue as i've read it was fixed in 1999 by putting a kink in the pipe to avoid it rattling agains the rivet!?

Cheers to all the suggestions guys (barring the one about the makeup or toys - too busy making sure people are viewing the tail end of my car for that!) She's going back in to the garage on Wednesday so I'll relay what you're said to the workshop and get them to check all the things you've mentioned.

Will keep you posted..........

Hmm, have elise rattle problems also in my S1 111s.

One is from the rear and happens when going over a bump in the road (like a raised man hole cover or speed bump) at low speed. Sounds like a vibration of something metal, but have checked undertrays and they're tight and rear window is fine..

Second is at low speed, again from the rear and sounds like something is hitting the undertray..

Neither seem serious and having them checked out by the garage in a week or so. Their thoughts were loose clips on the brakes and the handbrake cable. Any thoughts...?

I had the same problem and it turns out it was the rear windscreen. I was advised to get a perspex one, so i did and the rattling stopped!

Just to update you on the rattle saga (well it's a saga to me as I have to drive with the noise!). Car in on Wednesday and told it's a part of the lock in the driver's door not fitting securely when closed. So, part now ordered and waiting for her to go back and make her rattle free. I wait with baited breath to see if that is it - still need convincing. If not, guess she'll be going back in again......

don't think my rattle is coming from the lock mechanism! can't see that making very much noise to be honest with you!
