Simple, unimaginative, under £10k
Discussion
My mum wants a new car to replace her ‘99 Yaris which my daughter will be taking on.
Requirements are:
- under £10k
- simple (ie no electronic handbrake, keyless entry etc)
- petrol, manual
- cheap to service and run
- DAB and sat nav if possible
I’d prefer her to have something normally aspirated without a cam belt so that she doesn’t have to think too hard about servicing etc and there’s less to go wrong.
Another 1.3 Yaris (2016ish before the 1.5 came along) seems to be the obvious answer. Honda Jazz a possibility.
(A) am I right?
(B) any obvious contenders I’ve overlooked? Autotrader criteria throws up Kia, Suzuki, Mini etc but she needs to focus on something widely available so she can narrow down a shortlist to view (even if on Cazoo).
She is completely ambivalent about colour/brand/image.
Thanks.

1.4 Kia Rio in 3 Spec is where I'd be looking, in 3 spec you get nearly all of the tech & a bit more:

I’m sure it’s a great car and it hits the brief like all your recommendations @ZX10, I was just shocked how far up the market has gone, and taken the older stuff up with it.
A couple of years ago £10k would have got one of these before its first MOT surely?
Kia/Hyundai stepped up a while back, if the OP would accept a 1.0T he'd be able to get the newer 3 for their 10k:A couple of years ago £10k would have got one of these before its first MOT surely?

Disappointing that a thread with this title for a buyer of this age group could ignore the 'Octogenarian Express' classic:

Skoda Citigo/VW up/Seat mii
We’ve got a Citigo - it’s boringly reliable, costs pennies to run and rides really well for a small car. To be honest it feels bigger inside than you would think and for a little 75bhp motor it will quite happily nip around town and sit at motorway speeds.
