Where are all the cheap cars?

Looking for a cheap shed around 800 pounds with not even a couple of years ago you could get something with a years ticket for 500 ow you have people selling fiestas and polos with no mot for 5-600 pounds. Madness

They are out there, just need finding and the place serving the bottom end of the market seems to be facebook marketplace. I picked up a 2003 Clio with 10months MOT and only 57000 on the clock for £850 earlier this year. 12000 miles later and it is serving daily duties well.

Where have you been for the past couple of years? Covid, cost of living crisis, high isn't of scrap etc etc have all made cheaper cars a) scarcer and b) dearer but yes I'd agree, still heap cars out there but be prepared to do the leg work or get lucky... or both.

As others have said, it's a matter of patience. Some small independents sometimes have a few little"cheapies" round the back.They may be unwanted trade-off ins of just stuff they haven't got round to preparing. I think this is less of a gamble than buying on line.

Autotrader for me, Facebook was an odd experience when I was looking, glad I don't have an account anymore

Picked up a cheapie as p/x to clear from dealer, luck/patience and searching within your area obviously, who wants to travel to go see a car at this end of the market, negates the savings.

You may have to up your budget to at least £1k I reckon.

Facebook marketplace, eBay, gumtree, carandclassic, free ads, etc - you need to put in some legwork to find the bargains these days.
For me, that’s all part of the fun
