Sagging bumper and broken promises

Hi,

I put a deposit down for a Lexus GS, when going over the car I noticed some typical very minor stuff that would be expected for a 6 year old car.

The only thing that I was adamant about what fixing a slightly sagging front right bumper, see image.
The sales person said it would be fixed, there was never any doubt.

Now, the Lexus main dealer, is saying they can’t repair and would require a new bumper, which they won’t do.

Are they pulling my arm? Does it really need a new bumper?

I’m planning on pushing back. I put a deposit down with the expectation it would be fixed.

Any tips?

If it really needs a new bumper, it means it’s has a smack and broken clips or mounts. I can’t see why a body shop couldn’t sort it with a removal and refit myself. My guys have done worse.

I can't see why that would need a new bumper, it probably needs new clips.

A decnt body shop will be able to sort it.

Parking sensors borked is my bet

Mrs Fodder gently reversed her RCZ into our house (as they do) and although there was no visible bodywork damage the PS's had still been jiggered

I would assume that if it was a simple/cheap fix, then the dealer would do it to close the sale. It's your call, but personally I'd be reluctant to buy it as is, in the hope that I could later a find a body shop who could fix it properly.

Perhaps you could ask the dealer why they are saying it requires a new bumper, and to show you what exactly is broken, so you're better able to decide whether to go ahead or walk away.

It's not a very confidence inspiring situation from main dealer.

Is the car part of the Lexus Select Used Car Programme:

"The SELECT programme offers Lexus Approved Pre-owned used cars that meet a comprehensive manufacturer quality criteria. Lexus SELECT reflects and complements our values, premium quality, amazing customer service, and complete reassurance for our customers."

That's all guff then if they want to sell a car with a defect. What they are effectively saying is that you take it or leave it, as they are not cutting into their profit and will simply sell the car to another chump because of restricted supply/current car market.

Why on earth would you still buy the car if they're not even willing to fix the damage.

I'd understand if it was some back street garage but it's a main dealer.

If they're like this about obvious damage what are they going to be like if there's a problem with the car after purchase

Sounds like they were jiggered before she reveresed into the house

I’d not accept it at all
Not to mention the fact your just spoiling the dealer by accepting crappy service/terms.
