£20k for 25k pa mileage

Evening all,
Current PCH is coming to an end in the next few weeks and have decided to buy secondhand rather than lease again.
Max budget is £20k and would ideally like a used approved, or from a reputable dealer.
Whilst it'll only be me in the car for most of the week, and the wife has a family sized car, i'd quite like something large as they tend to ride better.
Key element for me is comfort, and whilst i'd like something fast, comfortable and economical is probably more what I actually need.
Diesel prefered due to mileage, although petrol considered if it would do 50+mpg on a run.
Auto prefered, but not essential. Will be looking to keep for 3 years so needs to be reliable and able to take up to 100k+ miles without feeling 'baggy' etc.
Current front runners (and difficult to look past the VAG group cars):
Volvo S90 - looks to have all the kit I could want and should get a D4 on a 2018 plate with less than 50k miles on it. I understand the seats in these are supposed to be very comfortable - Not sure how these stand up to bigger miles now that they are no longer Swedish
Skoda Superb - should be able to get the 2.0 tdi with a DSG box. Actually felt very nice to sit in, at least as good (if not better) than a VW - any horror stories for a 2018 or later VAG tdi or dsg?
Skoka Octavia - might 'just' be able to get into the latest model, but this will probably depend on whether I drop down a spec level. Don't really have too many wants other than Android Auto, parking sensors/camera and cruise but the electric seats in the higher specs allow you to tilt the base backwards to provide more support under my thighs.
VW Passat - didn't actually like it as much inside as the Superb, but actually seem slightly cheaper or newer for same money. Seats didn't feel quite as comfy, and the vast majority for sale appear to be the 1.5tsi petrol which won't be as economical and have kangarooing?
Audi A4 - Possibly feels 'too' small, and would likely be 2018 for a diesel as most of the newer ones in budget use the tfsi petrol. I presume the s-tronic is the same box as a dsg?
Audi A6 - Sat in a 2018 face lift and it was lovely, but well over budget. Looks like I could get a 2017or 2018 pre-facelift car, but the inside doesn't look as nice in the photos i've seen, but not sat in one. - Don't appear to get great reliability ratings
BMW 3 series - Could get in a 318d or 320d in sport trim with the auto gearbox. I understand the ZF box is well regarded for reliability, but the diesel engine still suffers from cam chain stretch?
Not keen on a Vauxhall, and Mondeo's seem to attract quite strong money.
What else have I missed, and any reactions to the above?

With your annual mileage the biggest factor will be depreciation, with that in mind I'd be looking at these:

I do about 20,000 a year in a 2017 330d touring, great car but they’re not the most comfortable over a long distance, the ride is too hard.

Really my OH was sad to see the GT go but I can understand it may be a tough sell, the Alfa is a very good option you can get them with the all (the red looks better in the flesh) black interior. 5 series looks like a nice place to sit. 2016 Jaguar XF 3.0d 300ps with the ZF8 transmission with only 35k on the clock.
Powerful engine will make the long runs less tiresome and it can return 51mpg. Has the excellent Meridian sound system.

5 series looks like a nice place to sit. Do you know if the seat base tilts to support under the legs (I know the M Sport ones do but not sure on the SE). Would be concerned that an 8 year old A8 would present a lot of opportunity for Bork!

If you are going to pile the miles on it I wouldn’t get too hung up on buying a low mileage car, as long as it has a manufactures warranty, which can be extended, I personally would buy something with about 65,000 on the clock, you’ll get much more for your money.
I did this with my 330d touring, I pile on about 20,000 a year so I bought a 2017 car earlier this year with 67,000 miles but with full history and a BMW warranty. My rationale was, why pay an additional £7000 for a car with 35,000 on the clock when I’m going to kill the value of it over three years anyway.

A very comfy ride due to softer set-up and longer wheelbase than standard 3-series, and massive rear leg room.
Smoothness and power of a 6 cylinder engine make long journeys nice too.
