When I sold my 9-5 Aero HOT back in 2011 I remember a guy who was really interested in it who wanted to swap it for paintings. I told him to sell the paintings and give me the cash instead.
On the other hand I did once buy a car where the seller said he'd like a bottle of good single malt. I spent about £50 on that so that was the price of the car.
Anyone else done a deal for something other than cash?

I had a car listed on an eBay auction and the winning bidder emailed me straight after to ask if I would mind waiting until payday. I stupidly said OK and then had two weeks of back and forth email with the guy telling me how excited he was to collect the car.
No surprise that the evening before the agreed collection day something unexpected had come up and how disappointed he was that he could no longer buy the car.
I relisted the car and then got all the "what happened, thought this was sold" messages from all the other time wasters.
I would rather scrap it now.

That was a crazy time. Even back then that car would've been worth a fair bit... but today I think they've become iconic. Right up there with the nobility of automotive design. 
Swapped a digiital camera for a Rolls Royce Silver Spirit.
My father had the Roller, he'd had trouble getting the suspension to level properly so said he was going to get rid. I said I'd have it, how much did he want. A digital camera was his answer. So I bought a £100 digital camera and swapped it.
I had the car for about 4 months, got the suspension sorted, and he mentioned that he'd been looking for another, so I gave it back to him so long as he covered the bills and gave me the money for the camera.

te but got me around, used it for about a year before deciding to sink every penny I could muster together to buy something with a bit more street cred (nova gsi).
The old fella was getting the driveway done at the time and somehow the polo became part of the deal on the driveway. Something like, builders sister in law needed a car after a divorce and so the polo became part of the final bill.
New driveway sank within the year, not sure how the polo faired as neither car nor builder was seen again. Not sure who got the best deal

In the days when you had to pay the scrapman to get rid of a car, i used to 'buy' cars with all sorts. A few examples i can remember;
Early Mk II Cavalier GL (Tango orange interior) for a CB radio
Mk III Capri 2.0GL for 40 B&H
Mini Estate for a worthless air pistol
Probably paid a bit too much on that Capri

Why are people so keen to exchange cars for watches? There was another one above who said the same. I liked the idea of somebody offering cannabis for a car.
In every case the idea of somebody weighing up whether a car is more important to them than the item they want to swap is quite funny!
I put my car for sale at the weekend and first message was someone offering a Rolex (MK 7 Golf GTD, nothing special).
No idea which one, I didn't go that far as I've no use for it. Yes I know it's likely to go up in value but it's hassle I don't need and I'd need to replace the car with something so the cash would be far more useful.
