Waze voice instructions

Apologies I'm a bit of a luddite, but in an attempt to becoming a 21c kid ive downloaded Waze onto my Samsung Galaxy.

Trouble is it doesn't give me voice instructions, it talks to me a bit "okay lets go" that kind of thing but doesn't tell me when to turn.

(Despite employing my best google skilz)

Any idea where I'm going wrong?

At the bottom of the waze screen there is a speaker icon, click that and you can chose ‘sound on’ or ‘alerts only’. I wonder if you have ‘alerts only’ selected.

I prefer Google maps on the phone, I find the directions clearer.

Google Maps is better for overall, but Waze has the peer to peer reporting of speed cameras, so most mobile cameras that are active that day are usually on there.

I Have Apple CarPlay. I put the Waze screen on, but use Google Maps for directions, so the speech comes from Gooigle Maps.

I don't know how or why but it's working now.

Mine wasn’t working yesterday or today. Although it said my volume was on. Hope mine is working tomorrow!
