Hi Folks,

Now I know I've seen this before on the forum but I can't find it?

The rear window of my S2 elise rattles. Now I realise you get rattles etc but it's right behind my ear and rather annoying after a few miles!

I thought the rear wndows were bonded in so I'm not really sure why it's rattling.

Has anyone experienced this before and has anyone found a soloution?

Regards,

Mac

Their are far better archives on SELOC and the Lotus section on the British Cars BBS.

Otherwise I imagine your looking at some kind of foam. I wouldn't glue it in as the rear window is designed to take in and out (it's a very easy process). It may be that when your window was last put back in (if it was ever taken out) that it was fitted the right side of the top window mountings so hence the rattle.

Take a close look.

On mine it was down to the fit of the panels where they meet near the upper seat belt mount. Try looking round there.

Not on an S2! It's a clam off job and the screen is bonded in. I've known people with shattered rear screens see bills of £400+ for replacement.

What's that about the right side...it is the right side that is rattling. Can you explain in a little more detail please. as I'm not really sure what I'm looking for?

There are some retaining brackets in the top roll bar cover which hold the glass in place. Check that the glass is correctly mounted behind them. You will know when you look at it as it's pretty obvious.

Is it behind your right ear? If so it might not be the window but panel fit.

On mine it was from where a number of panels meet just by the upper seatbelt mounting. Open the door, follow up from the striker pin and you'll see where I mean. Somebody posted a picture on SELOC a few months back that shows better than I can describe.

If you ask about it on there doubtless at least one wit will tell you the cure is to go for a Honda conversion. <yawn>

I have given up on trying to source rattles. Just drive faster with a sports exhaust.

i have exactly the same thing on mine - i gave up trying to work it out, just take the roof off and drive as fast as possibel tends to cure it If you get anywhere with locating it please post your results here as it woudl be good to knwo how to sort it for roof up driving. I tend to think it is somethign behind all the plastic trim where the seat belt mounting is but not ripped it off to investigate yet

Rear Window S2
A number of owners have had problems with squeeks and rattles from the rear window. This seems to be down to the gap between the glass and the body panels being too small. In a few rare cases the rear window has come unstuck and had to be rebonded by Lotus.
