There's fairly straightforward passage via the ship canal if needed.

The Weaver exits onto the ship canal at Marsh Lock near Runcorn. This gets you on to the canal system however to get to where the boat lift takes you to near Northwich there are quite a few locks.

Absolutely, well worth a visit. I popped over when lockdown was easing for a day, and it's a marvellous bit of engineering.
