Hi all. I was wondering if you can get grooved discs for the rear for the V8S. I was going to fit Chim vented rears but have just tried and now realise that I need to change the hub carriers so I don't think I want to go that far. Should have listened to you markh. If you can get them does anybody know were from

I think red dot do a grooved non vented rear, just need to identify the ford source part, which I think is off a Mk4 escort, check out 'www.need for speed' or some such site.

I suppose in principle it should be possible, being non-vented there may be an issue of strength if the grooves are too deep though. I guess your options are either buy standard solid discs and have them grooved, or find somebody that supplies grooved disc for that car (Sierra P5 I believe), or get them custom made (£££). Any particular reason you want grooves?

Hi folks. I was thinking that it might help slightly with cooling as it is mainly used for trackdays only during the summer. Have put 260's grooved and drilled on front with bigger callipers and ebc reds all round. Do you think it would help. Had 285's on first (hi spec) but were terible as was total lock up at front and I felt the rears were doing nothing. Was slowing down my lap times (dont really want to put bias valve on).Do grooves just help for dust etc. Open to all thoughts.Cheers guys.

Your brake bias appears to be the total opposite of mine. The rears lock if you have the slightest hint of engine braking and are heavy on the middle ped'. Are you sure they aren't slightly siezed.

I can understand the cooling requirements, my rear brakes heat the centre of the wheels to a temp that will burn your fingers.

Mine originally has 240mm vented single pot at the front and 250mm solid single pot at the back. I think this was the standard setup for S4/V8S and early 4.0 Griffiths and Chimaeras. On mine this setup was slightly tail happy under heavy braking, not disasterous but it certainly didn't encourage trail braking. Spacing the front calipers out to take 285mm discs gave a dramatic imcrease in heat dissipation and also corrected the rear bias. If anything it overcorrected it slightly, the car understeered slightly under heavy braking. It wasn't enough to compromise the braking ability and IMO it is vastly preferable to have a car that understeers rather than oversteers on the limit of braking. I would have thought that going from 240mm to 260mm (with nothing else changed) would move the bias forwards slightly but I'd be surprised to get the dramatic effect you describe. Did you change the caliper when you fitted the bigger discs?

The standard rear disks if 253mm have all of these vehicles in common. There must be loads of suppliers of Ford performance parts that can help you out.

Cheers, not forgetting it is 10mm thick as well .
As I said in my original reply check out 'need for speed' they have grooved replacements if you wnat them, 6/20/40 grooves personally I wouldn't fit any more than 6 groove myself.

Hi all, sorry I took a while to get back (e-mail mucking about). Now to answer the questions,I don't think the rear pistons are ceased as they run free and I have went through 1 set of 1144's in 4 track days. I must not have been very clear about the front locking up big style but it was when I put the 285's on the front with the Chim callipers. It was scary going into the corners (the backs were doing nothing as I was hardly touching the brake ped) but I have now put on the 260's and it has realy helped but I was wanting to do something to the rear to help cool them down as they are doing the job now. Contacted "need for speed" and had to sit down when they told me the price for standard rear discs with grooves £175 + vat + delivery (I dont think so). So plan B is I am puting the rear discs of the Chim on (vented and grooved) and have ordered a pair of calipers from Bells garage. Rather than change the hub carrier I am fabracating (cant spell that) MAKING extension brackets to come of the hub holes from original caliper mountings. Started last night and it is slow but am getting there, I am hoping that the hand brake cable will reach as it goes onto the piston from the rear insead of the front (like the V8S)If that ends up with to much braking to the rear I can get the dust of the 285's again and try them (that is realy what I want)

That's curious, because my experience with that setup was completely different. I take it the rears weren't getting particularly hot when this happened? Did you have any particularly grippy pads fitted up front?

Strange pricing there, their site gives the rear 253x10mm solids at £98 per pair for 6 groove .

Must have heard my accent and put a bit on (or could have been delivery to N/I). The rears with the 285's were not as hot as usual (1144's on rear ebc reds on the front at the time) and when 260,s on ebc reds on both all roasting which is good ish.
