MX5 2.0 NC mapping

I'm looking at doing a few mods to my NC over the coming winter, including some lumpier cams, lighter flywheel and 4 branch exhaust manifold but I'm wondering what my options will be when it comes to mapping? Is there a generic re flash available nowadays, or is it possible to live map the stock ECU?

I'm also thinking about some flowing of the head but are there any gains to be made without spending big bucks, or should I leave well also and just swap the cams?

Hi Mark

When I had my NC mapped, the tuner started by loading in his most recent copy of a tuned NC map. This took the engine from 158bhp to 175ish at the touch of a button. After this he did lots of dyno runs and tweaking fuelling, cams and other things to finish at 185ish. I'm sure that an "off the shelf" map would give you those large initial gains, but I'd be more reassured with a tuner tailoring the remap to my engine.

After getting the 4-1 exhaust manifold and remap done for £950 I decided that the cams wouldn't give me much bang per buck, so stopped there. I think that at the time it would have been about a grand for another 10bhp.

I'm unable to comment on mods to make the intake side of things more free flowing but have heard good things about individual throttle body kits, which weren't widely available when I modded my engine nearly 4 years ago.

I hope some of this info is useful. There's tons of NC mod related info on the flyin Miata website.

PS, since the remap my NC engine hasn't missed a stroke.
