Selling two cars to buy 1

Apologies I posted yesterday regards to a RRS, but after some thought I don't really want a RR was just had a mad moment.

As explained I've currently got a E93 335i that I am not enjoying and looking to move on. I also have a E46 M3 as a weekend car.

Looking at what to purchase I find myself not knowing what to do, I am looking at two options

1) Sell the 335i and the M3, use these funds to buy one car. F82 M4/F10 M5/F06 M6
2) Sell the 335i and keep the M3, use the 335i funds to buy somthing else circa 10-12k

Criteria:-
Daily driver, 50 mile round commute, mainly B lanes (Fuel paid, but dont want to take the mick)
4 seats, as have a 3 year old
Engaging drive, but not bone breaking (Feeling old at 35)
Nice place to be after a days work

Any suggestions welcome.

M4 is on my shortlist of cars if my weekend test drive of an F-Type doesn't work out. I previously had an F83 and really enjoyed it but sold to try the hot hatch thing (i30N), it was a brilliant car and real fun to drive, hence being on my list again but this time in coupe guise for the added practicality.

The M5 would be an absolute weapon, but I fear you're in a bit of a barge that has far more power than you can really enjoy on UK roads and I'd say somewhat similar about the M6 vs the M4. Prices on the M4s have seemingly tumbled quite hard over the last 12months and that's another reason for my temptation!

With those requirements, then I would be inclined to sell both and get the M4

I’d go M3 though as slightly rarer on the road, awesome cars though.

No way I'd be selling an E46 M3 if I had one. Values will only go up in the future. I also think that it's good to have two cars, if you're lucky enough to have the funds, as it keeps the weekend car feeling more special.

My vote would be to keep the E46 and get the most engaging hatch that you can for your budget.

(The RRS was a rubbish idea by the way, glad you moved on from that!).

I'd say keep the M3 & buy a smart daily, I'd suggest the GTC VXR they're comfortable (the Recaro's are great) properly quick handle really well especially when you press the VXR button &

Would you rate the Astra over a megane?

I'd be keeping the E46 M3 toy, but then I would as my toy is a Z4M Coupe.

My daily is an E90 330i, but if I was doing a 50 mile daily commute I'd have got a 330d or 335d.

Any "2 to 1" is only ever going to be a compromise - it's just a question of where you compromise!

What didn't you like about the E93 335i? Maybe it was too close to the M3?
More torquey, easily accesible performance but a less exciting drive due to being more soft and distant?

If it were me I'd probably try to daily the M3 if you don't mind racking up the miles.
Even a newer M2 Comp or M4 will lack certain sensations that were more pure in the E46 M3. Anything below an M will be a step closer to the 335i again.

The radical and probably most sensible thing to do would be buying an I3S for the daily miles. It's such a great car in its own way and will definitely make you appreciate keeping the M3 around.

Tough one the Megane is the best handling FWD when you're properly on it but you'll want the Cup Chassis & preferably the Recaro's.

The VXR is just a bit better as an all rounder than the Megane & it's only a smidge behind (they have a very similar suspension setup) the RS when on it, but the VXR edges it on the other 350 days of the year.

Thank you, I’ve been looking at the Astra a lot now and didn’t see the appeal always dismissed them, but they look a very good option.

OP, I hope you don't mind me saying but you're all over the place. I thought you wanted an engaging drive and a dose of practicality? I don't know the condition of your 335i but I would say this is a step back in terms of driving, suitability for a 50 mile round commute, and practicality.

Sorry for the direct feedback, but I suspect this latest idea is why no one else has responded!

I hope you find the right car for your needs and enjoy the daily drive.

No need to apologies, I completely agree, hence why I go round and round trying to work out what I want.

The CLK came up close to me and looked good value, but the guy had received a deposit on it before I got to view.

I think the Astra VXR is the way forward though…..

The Astra's I linked to have Nav which normally means the better stereo & bluetooth streaming.

RS TT Convertible. Or even a 2.0 TT Convertible to keep insurance down. I get the feeling you just want a reasonably practical sporty convertible.
