I'm sure I saw one of these flying E-W near Byfield (South of Daventry) this afternoon. Is it likely?

Quite possible. There was one offering flights around Portsmouth Harbour etc over the last few years, I’ve personally seen it (and heard) it go over my house several times, but not this year yet.

Edited to add it appears there’s at least 4 flying and this is just one of them.
