Factory Closure

I have a completion date for a C2 992 on 25/08/22. There is a lot of discussion about the factory closure for the summer break in August. Would no cars be built in that period!, it is a strange decision as there is such a backlog, could Porsche not stagger the summer break so that some are off in July and some in August so that production continues. It doesnt make economical sense either. Is it definitely happening and if so for what dates and would our completion dates will be delayed as a result? Thanks

German workers councils take some time and negotiating with... and with a coming recession (and potential for shortages of power in the winter) I imagine the workers want a lot of backlog.

I suspect the German unions might well raise issue with that plan. Besides the planned maintenance window, running short teams isn't going to end well

Pretty much all of Europe is shut during August afaik. Holiday season

You can't just run a factory 24/7 without stopping for big maintenance items - these are usually scheduled in the summer.

Also this is how Porsche and Similar implement model year updates - change tooling / processes etc - again, not an overnight process.

If the completion date is 25 Aug then sounds like some forms of production are happening, even if they're retooling elsewhere.

And if you've been told something as precise as 25 Aug which is only a few weeks away then it's probably accurate as closure / retooling would have been factored in.

Guess the potential issue is the date slipping as that has happened generally in recent months, but I'd be optimistic if I were you.

We were at the Porsche Museum on Friday and saw some bodies going across the bridge between two factory buildings. I asked if the factory was still open as we tried to book a tour before we left the UK and couldn't as the Porsche website advised the factory was closed from the 18/7.

The response was that the factory was still operating at reduced capacity. It wasn't clear if that was continuing throughout the summer break. Perhaps they're trying to catch up on the backlog?

The simple answer is- Retooling, its the same every year for as many years as i can remember.

Don't take the system as gospel, in fact, your better to throw a blade of grass to the wind!

it normally is, but what has changed on the MY23 992 to need retooling? theres barely any difference is there, an extra colour, anything else?

New model year use to start after summer factory shutdown, but for many years now new MY starts around June/July.

not this year it hasnt, if anything they are building MY22 cars into September this year because of the delays.

They already have MY23 Caymans being built?
