roof pannels

Read the thread on MX5 type roofs with some interest the other day. If there is one thing that bugs me about my S2 it's having to fill up the boot if the roof's down.

What about some sort of folding pannel to replace the two rigid cente pannels. I think the Elise or VX220 have something similar. The rear folding section of the roof could be retained and the collapsible secion fitted into it. The main panels could be left at home but still have some weather protection and most of the boot space.

Reading some of the threads on here I'm sure somebody would have the know how. Is it feasible?

I measured it up and came to the conclusion that a three-piece split roof similar to the existing 2-piece design would be small enough to stow the panels on the rear parcel shelf. Luckily I came to my senses and decided to spend the money making the car go faster instead ...

could become a bit unstable at higher speeds though

Before I fitted the bucket seat I used to be too tall to wear a helmet with the lid on, so rain or shine when I was sprinting the roof had to be off. I've got a golf umberalla which just neatly covers the roof opening (handle gets in the way of reverse but I could live with that) so for a year or so the golf umberella was a regular sight at sprints, just had to remember to chuck it down the passenger's footwell before the green light came on ...

I've a design sketched out on the whiteboard of my office.. I reckon its feasible, but required a slightly different approach to the Elise type hood.

Next step is to get the mechano out..

How about the electric metal roof fitted to the Peugeot 206 or 307cc, I'm sure with a little adjustment it will fit?!
