Radiator top Hose PLEASE HELP

Im after some help, my 98 S1 has decided to pop the top hose (passenger side) off its fitting. I have been trying to get my hand in to re-connect it for the last 40 mins. Is this a clam shell off job, cause i am having a nightmare.
Got in tonight and the car had spat its coolant all over my drive......not happy.

You will probably lose a bit of blood and a lot of skin off your knuckles, but it should be possible to do it with the clam in-situ by unbolting the wheel, then removing the wheel arch liner.
You can then reach round to the rad hose connection from the front of the wheelarch.
