Haven't seen many headlines about this.

Does the mass killer stopped by armed citizen not fit the narritive? Good shooting by the way. Despite not being close up 8 out of 10 shots on target in 15 seconds. And no police or military background..

15 seconds from when the guy came out and started, then having to see what's going on with no prior warning, react and get 8 shots on target while under stress. I suspect most people wouldn't manage that even with practice, and probably a lot of police wouldn't manage it either.

There's an argument that a lot of people would be a huge hazard themselves in this situation as they'd be hitting everything but the target but in this case it worked out.

If 3 dead innocent people is classed as a successful result by a 'good guy with a gun', I'd say we need to give the good guys more guns!

The problem with the whole 'good guy with a gun' argument is that we never know what the data is around those who were carrying but didnt do anything.

In this case, someone did something, and thats great. But how many other people were there that were carrying but didnt do something? And I cant help thinking that the average person isnt going to enter the fray - the extraordinary ones do, and thats great, but what happens when no one steps up? Unfortunately though, differentiating between the 'good guy with a gun' and the perpetrator can be difficult:

Ok, its one example in recent months vs multiple other mass shootings - but it goes back to the question though, if you were in a position to respond because you were legally carrying, would you? And could you be level-headed enough to ensure that the responding law enforcement dont see you as a threat? Our will to survive can make us do the strangest of things.

And having seen some pretty shocking gun handling / ownership and irresponsible behavior here in the USA - many of these 'good guy with a gun' people are far from it and would be a danger to everyone else! And thats before I get to the law enforcement people! A local sheriff got suspended because he shot a kid with a tazer - yep, mishandled the damn thing and shot a kid! Thank christ it was a tazer, but this is far from unique - law enforcement are not perfect either.
