Currently looking to change my daily (4ltr Jaguar XJ8) for a diesel of some sort, which will occasionally have to tow a 17ft boat. I currently move it with my ‘90 VW T25, but it’s a struggle.
I do like the Volvo XC90 D5, but it’s a massive step down in power from my current daily, and I don’t really need a car that size for towing a small boat, although I do like the raised driving position compared with estates/saloons.
So I’m looking for alternative suggestions on estates/saloons/SUV’s under £5k, which must be able to comfortably tow. Thanks I’m advance.

Rather avoid cars in the £600 tax bracket. Plus need something reliable, so that’s land rovers ruled out unfortunately.

They are great cars! Have driven the disco 3,4 & 5, but I don’t need any of the off road bits and I’m only towing 750kg max

750kg?

Anything at all that you fancy will tow that.

Try a Volvo V70.

This. Basically anything which you can attach a tow bar to will do it. Depending on how steep or slippery your ramp is then 4WD/AWD might be useful, but you can get that in the form of Audi Quattro, BMW XDrive, etc rather than having a "4x4" as such.
