GT3 brake pads
Discussion
My 991.1 GT3's discs are close to being utterly shot, so planning on changing them and the pads at the same time even though the pads have reasonable life left in them. I wanted to get the Manthey Racing Pagid pads, but the dealer's response was pretty much "computer says no" and since the car is under OPC warranty the offered option is to get the official pads.
Can I / should I override them and just accept that the car's warranty won't cover the choice of pads? Or would it also invalidate the warranty for the discs, calipers etc etc? Are the official ones perfectly good anyway so melting my wallet for a different option is nigh on pointless?
They didn't seem to have any opposition to fitting the MR braided hoses, so not sure what their stance on consumables actually is!

Consumables (discs, pads etc) aren't warrantied but they could prevent you extending the warranty again. The old OPC 111-point check used to prevent total warranty extension if any non-standard parts were fitted but this appears to have gone by the wayside ni recent years. I'm not sure what the latest stance is as I don't run a car under the extended warranty.
If you're planning on extending the warranty or selling the car in the near future I'd stick with OEM. Once you start down the non-standard route it can get costly to revert it back to standard.

I'd suggest Endless pads. Been using them for many years on ceramic and non ceramic rotors and they are fantastic.
Also once you have the 111 point done and warranty renewed, you don't need a 111 point check done for future renewals, they don't need to see the car providing you renew before it expires.

Can you get the 111 check done sooner rather than later ? Then you will be free to change to whatever you want and have the 2+ years of warranty ?
And then in 2 years time?If you're going to run the extended warranty for the foreseeable future I'd stick with OEM, otherwise why bother reducing your cover?
They didn't say it was Covid related, mine is due mid August so will check with them, also referenced here:

yes , agreed that in 2 years he will have to reconsider his position. 2 years is a long time in (my) car ownership If you're going to run the extended warranty for the foreseeable future I'd stick with OEM, otherwise why bother reducing your cover?

My OPC has also intimated that my GT3 doesnt need another 111 check as long as its renewed whilst still in force. Maybe there is a difference between known customers with a relationship compared to random folk dropping in

Interesting. I wonder if I can extend mine on my GT4 next year to get some sort of cover even if it's been modified...
Shouldn't be a problem T my GT3 warranty was renewed at 3 years old March 2021 without seeing the car in fact the last time they saw it was at 2 years old for its first service.

Interesting - cheers. I'll need to weigh up whether the parts that would definitely be covered is worth the warranty cost versus the parts that might not be covered. Probably worth an off-the-record chat with my OPC's workshop manager before paying anything
I believe my local OPC's position was that the 111 will not be required because the car is still under warranty from its previous owner, as long as I renew before expiry. So, that said I could fit whatever I wanted, but then again would I want any hassle if anything did need doing and they started pointing out all the changes I'd made?
