2011 Volvo V70 2.0 D3 (5 Cyl). High miles.
Discussion
So after the disappointment of buying a 2017 Infiniti Q70 with reasonably low miles...
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
...that was supposed to be reliable and cost effective motoring.
I have gone full circle and purchased a 2011 Volvo V70 SE with the 2.0D 5 cyl engine on 147k miles.
However...I think..I hope...I have got lucky.
2 owners from new, the last being 9 years.
The car is extremely clean in and out and underneath is excellent.
It has mountains of service history (every year) and has just been serviced one week ago.
It has had 2 cambelt changes (one recently) and a new clutch/ flywheel at a cost of £1k, not long ago.
The MOT history is very good aswell.
Haven't driven it yet, but got the seller to take me out in it and it wafts along with no noises, squeaks or rattles.
Oh, and comparable cars on eBay/ Autotrader are more than twice what I paid.
Lets hope there is not a reason for this.
Poor quality photo I snapped to get the plate for insurance. All paid for now and ready for collection this evening.

What a great car!
Journey home went without a hitch...there is NOTHING wrong with it...everything works perfectly.
Engine is incredibly quiet and it just eats up the miles.
I have already snow foamed the car and given it a good wash.

Will claybar it when I get a chance.
The alloys are also not perfect so will either get some secondhand ones that are in better condition or get the current ones refurbed.
Also on the look out for a rear bumper as someone has done a blow over spray job on it which has some peel.
But yeah...over the moon with this car.

For pushing 150k miles both the interior and exterior have worn exceptionally well.
If anyone want to know...£2300.
It looks great, lovely colour. If anyone want to know...£2300.
The price seems good too, for context, I recently gave £2500 for a 20 year old V70 t5 on similar miles.
Sure it'll be with you a LOT longer than the Infiniti!
That's an absolute bargain! It looks to be the same vintage and spec as my D5, same wheels on ours and yep they are corroded to hell too. I've never had much luck with Volvo wheels, I had an S60 before and they were the same. Get them stripped and powder coated and it will knock years off the car.
As well as the rear bumper...the wheels let the car down.
A ring around today at a few local wheel refurbishers and I am looking at £300 for the wheels powder coated and no car for 4 days. I am not paying that on a low value car.
A plan was hatched...I found some identical wheels 10 miles away for £100 in ok condition.

This means I can refurb those, and once all 4 are done, just swap them over and then sell the ones currently on the car for around the same price I paid.
Anyway. Just to note...this is a cheap refurb. It is not a pro refurb and due to time/ budget constraints. The finish will be presentable, as opposed to immaculate.
I am only painting the fronts of the wheel as I just can't be bothered to do the inners which are corroded. Too much effort.
Anyway, the paint colour is dictated by what I had in the garage today...Lunar Grey...a nod to my old Jaguar XK.
Anyhow I started by putting on some strong wheel cleaner, rubbed all the dirt off and then blasted any flakey paint off with the pressure washer.
I then got the wire brush drill attachment and sand paper and then primed them up and sanded to a smooth finish.

2 layers of paint (haven't had a chance to lacquer yet).
Really liking the colour and a good choice I think.
Looking much better than what is currently on there...

I've just sold my 2013 D3 5cyl with 149k on for less than that.If anyone want to know...£2300.
There's a lot of high prices for these cars, I'm intrigued as to whether anyone pays them.
Ours was in great condition inside, starting to show the miles outside. It also had a few looming bills hence why I bailed.
I traded it at Cazoo - and was disappointed that the wedge of date order reciepts for all the work done, including timing belt, was binned 'because GDPR', and only the book with stamps in retained...
They're great cars.. Impressive space, waft along and pull like a train no matter how loaded. They're so bloomin logical to use - my only moans were odd handbrake switch position, cupholders and Volvo parts were steep.

Great purchase, both the car and the spare wheels. I paid quite a bit more for my XC70 at the end of last year and it was in much worse condition cosmetically. At the time, the only 2-3k V70s local to me were Cat N/S. Maybe/hopefully things are starting to calm down a little.
I think 150k is normal mileage on these.

The 2010 car in this thread has a "CAP" price of £2575 which is roughly what the trade would value it at and roughly what it might fetch at trade auction. £2300 was therefore a very good price. I would have thought a 2013 should be worth a fair bit more. There's a lot of high prices for these cars, I'm intrigued as to whether anyone pays them.
