430d xdrive to m235i? or suggestions?

Considering going from my 430d xdrive to an m235i, interested to hear people's experiences or any suggestions to something I may be missing.
I love my current car's quality and it certainly feels quick enough however I no longer have a long commute to work so the great MPG I get out the diesel is no longer necessary and I have always wanted a nice sounding petrol (only ever had diesel).
I am 22 and have previously have cancelled insurance due to getting it cancelled from stupidly getting a black box. This means insurance for me is quite hard and i'm not sure can warrant getting the m240i instead as its 1k extra to insure and i've heard/read it doesn't sound as good nor has too much noticeable power difference?
I'm also unsure as to whether to hold off altogether and save up a tad longer for something completely different league such as an F type, Old Vantage, Granturismo etc. I'm concerned i may be underwhelmed by the m235i in terms of 'fun'. Will there be noticeable driving experience going from an already semi quick, good looking and good fuel economy car is there going to be that extra experience that will be worth the change or do i hold off and/or consider something else?

thanks, I am considering getting the m235i in the mean time as it would actually be cheaper for me to own than my current 430d xdrive but at the same time i don't want to jump into the m235i and be disappointed and wish i had just saved a bit more and got something special. Do you have any recommendations around the same price point (or slightly more) for something special i won't be disappointed in? I want something that sounds good and is fairly quick (happy with anything sub 5 sec 0-60)

Test drive one if you can, I am 23 and had no problem test driving an M140. Driving an M2 is more problematic though, they want 25 Y/O and above.Shiv_P said:

yeah i think i may have to try and find one to test drive! If the sound is as good as i've been told/read then i may be swayed to the m235i. I considered M2's but having done some research apparently they wouldn't be great to daily and not worth the extra 10k over the m235i performance wise? what are your thoughts on that? I've never driven either but love the look of the m2To throw a huge expensive spanner in the works...
Residuals on M2 Comps are very good just now. If you were going to finance then they can be had 400-450 a month with a 2k deposit.
I had an M140 at 21 and I paid a similar figure for it back then, and at the time mates were paying the same for S3s, Golf Rs etc. An M2 Comp for 450pm is a stonking deal.
I don't know your financial situation but if you were going to finance the 235i then figures could work out similar - HP vs PCP of course.
If your 430d is owned outright then that could make a house deposit or rainy day fund.

That’s interesting I thought they were considerably more! Although I’ve never done a PCP, always HP. I could afford the m2 but I think as a daily driver it would be more sensible to get the m235i based on what I’ve been reading/heard. I just don’t know whether I will regret going through the hassle of selling my current 430d and be disappointed jumping into the m235i..although it would save me a bit of money as I believe the m235i’s are going for less than my current car in the spec I have.Residuals on M2 Comps are very good just now. Unless it’s something really special like a nice V8 or something silly quick then ideally I’d like to spend around the value of my current car (20k ish) I’ve seen some m235i’s in decent spec at just below this mark so I am tempted as I think I would like the change in noise (I’m aware the performance won’t be too noticeable from my current car) although I’m not sure if it’s worth it the hassle as I could just be patient and save a few months longer, but then again I would be coming into a whole new territory with maintenance costs aswell as a higher purchase cost david-j8694 said:
They won't feel that much different minus the engine in the m235i, which is good to be fair. Unless it's a full fat M car, it's never gonna get you that excited.

I've never driven either but love the look of the m2I am in the same boat as you, but the residuals are driving me towards the M2 alongside a fairly short 15-20 min commute
