After a fantastic British GP, we’re in Austria for Round 11; a race dominated by Max last year. There should be lots of overtaking, it’s a good little circuit.

It’s a sprint weekend (sorry) but at least Ricciardo gets to be beaten by Norris twice. Interesting to see if Mercedes can keep up the progress on a different kind of circuit.

Here’s to another great race.

Date(s): Friday 8 to Sunday 10 July 2022.

UK Broadcast Timings (and local time)

All sessions are live on Sky F1. Qualifying and the race are shown as highlights on Channel 4.

Live timing for all sessions available here:

Lap times, PU component use, technical reports and Stewards' decisions for the weekend will appear here:

Weather forecast:

Tyre options:

Sprint RACE!!

Ok it’s not that exciting, but good tracks for overtakes, good place for Ferrari to add some new ammo for the PU bank, and take massive grid penalties while overtaking most of the field.

SC heaven..

Will Bernie turn up?

Fast corners (Merc?).

Can Horner contain his smirk?

Landos best track too?

Thanks as always, PIAP. Ouch to the DR comment! hehe

I struggle to see RB getting beaten here. It is a very happy hunting ground for them.

There’s a bit of rain around this week, some more reduced dry running (with the inevitable loss of data) could give us some surprises again.

Kind of interested to see if Mercedes can sustain their apparent progress here. Lewis appeared as fast as anyone at Silverstone but it was a very smooth surface.. and with them fielding two British drivers at the British GP, there's always a good chance they gambled on a higher power mode.

I'm sure most of us would love to get to the summer break and have a two team battle upgraded to a three team one smile

Nope. At Silverstone, once they had got the new package set up, Max was 0.5 seconds up on everyone. If his car is reliable, he’ll win.

This. In a straight race with no wildcards, should be straightforward.

Merc are quicker in the race, Red Bull can’t count their chickens yet..

Max is walking towards the championship.

Ferrari don't understand they are in a season long championship and are strategically inept.

Mercedes are closer but unfortunately I don't think this track will suit them at all.

Red Bull 1-2 is very likely.

This.

Mercedes always struggle for pace a bit in Austria, even at their most dominat it was always a track where everyone else got closer. They may well be further back from Red Bull and Ferrari again this weekend.

The questions of "will Verstappen win" and "will Verstappen's car be in once piece at the end of the race" seem to be one and the same now.

I think we can be pretty sure of some interesting racing in the mid-field at least. Leclerc vs Perez might be interesting if Ferrari don't screw up again.

Ah, the bloody sprint bks again! There’s too much jeopardy for anyone to try anything risky in the Sprint format, so all we see is everyone holding station, maybe different tyres make things a little more interesting.

This format might actually benefit Mercedes, who have better race pace than qualifying this season.

Thanks PIAP. Just noticed that the thread title is the wrong year. Is it too late to change it?
