Heard this on the radio earlier with them saying the changes need to be made to stop people migrating to streaming services...

It kind of defeats the object though as myself and a lot of others I imagine will migrate anyway due to all the damn adverts! rolleyes

If there's something on ITV I want to watch (very rarely if ever)I always record it and watch it later so I can FF through the ads!

Broadcast channels just don't have a clue what to do. They're just doubling down on one of the things that people don't like about their service.

It’s going to cockily my ad skipping strategy. On recorded I programme I currently just hit forward skip button twice and more often than not it is exactly the length of the break. Now I’m going to have to work on having the reactions of a wild west gunslinger to use the x30 ff.

Yeah I cannot tolerate adverts. Longer adverts is not going to make me go back to regular TV, quite the opposite

I never watch ads. I mute them if I can't be arsed to turn over. Some programmes, like the Jeremy Vine show, feel as if the ads take up as much time as the programme. Are they trying to get more people to watch BBC?

less of a reason to watch tv, as others said, I will record then skip through the ads. I already cannot stand the ads on music channels, if this increased i'd be less inclined to watch them. channels that show ads every 15min on movies are terrible too, absolutely ruins the pace. even less likely to want to sit down and watch a movie

Likewise. Sadly I don't have a record facility so cannot FF..... I use ad breaks for taking a leak, looking at Pistonheads or doing washing up etc.
I mostly use Amazon prime video, YouTube & various other streaming options, so I don't really watch that much regular TV anyway.
If you want to get away from all the nonsense on the radio, try high quality streaming radio, like Radio Paradise - no ads, almost zero talking, & you can fast forward. Decent FLAC high bit rate too....

I stopped watching broadcast TV because ads became so frequent and annoying.

Now that a lot of others are doing the same, they think the answer is more ads. Their business model doesn't work any more because people now have choices and aren't forced to watch advertising.

He's from the 1950s biggrin

But yeah, back on topic. Who cares, shooting themselves in the foot, FF the ads etc.
Haven't watched an ad in 10yrs., just count the number of times I press the FF button.

Has anyone thought of better content on the TV?

Putting stuff.on that people want to watch may be an idea.

Best thing I did was to stop paying the TV licence, very little appealed to me anyway I don't miss it.

I now watch all the things I'am interested in on Youtube, yes there are ad's but not for minutes at a time.

What do you mean? Dancing with Celebrity Love Island Brother is excellent!

Actually no, most of the content on TV now is garbage. More adverts will just make it worse. Passes me off that I pay nearly £100/month for my Sky package and its still full of ads, bit at least I can FF them and most of the on demand stuff doesn't have adverts.

The BBC is just as bad now with adverts for their own st all the time.

Was in Spain a few years back and the weather was st one night so we gave the TV a go.

Holy moly, there was literally a half hours worth of ads in one go. Kept watching it thinking this was the last one but no! Another straight after. To be fair the following program was ad free so it looks like they get them out the way in one go but I think we have the right balance over here.

As for US television, ads every bleeding’ five minutes…

Most hour long shows are actually only 42 mins when you watch them on the i player or similar.

I used to own a DVD recorder that had a feature to skip advert breaks. Why didnt that catch on I wonder !!
