Help me out, for my next car I’m thinking a fun Honda. I do about 6000 miles a year, a 25 mile daily commute all on B roads, plus I want something fun for the weekends.

I have £10k maybe £15k at a push. I want something fun, reliable, not going to dissolve in front of my eyes as it needs to be used all year (is that possible for a Honda….)

Is a nice EP3 the answer or something different? I’ve been looking at the Euro R, which appeals, such as this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234599385164?hash=item3...

I think a DC5 is out of my price range now and not sure they should be subjected to daily use all year. Any other suggestions?

That Euro R does look good but I have no idea if it's a good deal though! I'd suggest an FN2 if you can get past the styling, a very capable hot hatch that's modern enough to live with.

...or you could daily a 25yr old Prelude like I did, genuinely suggest that if you're into older Honda's as they're very comfy and surprisingly practical for a 90's coupe.

I’d feel the Euro r is slightly higher priced. They are good A-B fun cars.

How about…

I have been lusting over than eg all week, is it a realistic daily though?

I’d need to use it all year, although not many miles. My garage space is taken up by my classics so would have to live outside

Depends how fun you want your daily to be. I’ve run a K swapped DC2 for four years as a daily (low miles) and found the conversion fantastic.
The EG base car seems sound (rust wise)…

You’re seriously tempting me….

I’ve noticed this one is still registered as a 1.5, how much of an issue is this?

Just a case of updating the log book with dvla with correct engine size and numbers and insurance…

£15k will get you an FD2 (just about, anyway).

I've ran mine as a daily for 9 years, put ~85k miles on it in that time, 30k in the two years I was commuting 33 miles cross-country to Cheltenham and back.

>30mpg on a run, suspension stiff but liveable (i.e. no worse than a DC5) if you swap the rear dampers for Koni Yellows, better soundproofing than a DC2 or EG/EK, bigger boot than all the other options, double-DIN stereo slot so you can fit something with Apple/Android/bluetooth etc.

...and ballistic cross-country. Granted I'd have more fun in a DC2, and probably a well set-up/modified EG/EK too, but they're a different generation.

Where are they all? I’ve been looking for a few months and have not seen a decent FD2 or Integra for sale at around that price point. Is there any specific forums they come up for sale? Torque GT haven’t had anything come up for sale for a while now.

I’m only doing 6k a year, 25mile round commute but it will be used on salty roads so I don’t really want something quite as rust prone as the earlier gen (dc2/eg etc)

In which case stick with UKDM or non-Japanese. Or be prepared to invest in rust-prevention every other year and rust repairs every 4-5.

PS - just found this one...not a recommendation, just an observation they do still exist.

That’s my car. Insured with Greenlight all mods declared. Although it’s for sale it’d be a nightmare daily tbh, but I’m getting old lol.
Sump is low, it’s on coilovers and no power steering. If you can live with that then all good.

It’s lanoguarded underneath.

If you want to come and see it with no pressure just swing me a message on eBay.

Two more FD2s on eBay around the £15k mark - a silver one, and a white one up in Edinburgh has just gone up for £16k.

It’s a lovely car, I’ve come to the same conclusion though, as a daily I don’t think it’s a sensible decision and I already have two ‘toys’.

The problem for me going to see a lot of these cars is that I live on the Isle of Wight so it’s not the easiest. The plus side of living here is we have some fantastic roads.

Out of interest how have you found Lanoguard? I’ve been thinking about using it on my classics, I normally go for Bilt Hamber but Lanoguard seems incredibly easy to apply. It seems quite watery, does it last?

Good luck with the sale, I’m surprised it hasn’t been snapped up already.

Cheers buddy. Tbh I’ve not long applied the lanoguard and no experience through a winter. Incredibly easy to apply though and made all the control arms etc look like new.

I thought it would have gone by now. Maybe it’s a little to high? I didn’t think so. I’ve turned down £9k for it as I want a little more. Lots of px’s I’ve no interest in.

I might lower the price a little in a week or so and retain the spares and second set of wheels to sell separately.

Fresh import, which is good news.

Mostly standard, which again is good news, although exhausts can be personal taste...I'm not a fan of any a/market exhaust on a 4-pot Honda, as they almost always end up sounding chavvy...induction sound is where you want to be with K's and B's (& H's, for that matter).

Seems pricey...but a quick google suggests prices really are all over the place, and you DO need to buy on condition.

Selling after 8 months could be legit as suggested, but could be there's some underlying issue with the car that wouldn't have been picked up at auction...these things ARE 20 years old now. Probably legit though...I'm just a cynical old bugger.

That money will get you a leggier FD2 though, so it's a case of do you want a (probably) pretty mint DC5 or a decent-but-used FD2. Both better on track than a B-road, if truth be told, but both CAN be sorted if you start playing with the suspension...

Thanks for the advice, I’m like you and generally cynical about things, I think this one could be a good ‘un though. I can’t get my head round prices lately on the surface I don’t think this is too bad but could be wrong

This one has the new-import premium added to it...you won't get that back when you flog it as it'll have been exposed to a few years of Brit roads / salt.

Accept that it's one that won't appreciate on you but won't (shouldn't) need bodywork doing for some time, and check everything else is straight.

I've got a UK Spec DC2, which i'll be looking to sell later this year maybe next year.
Im currently having some work done on it to mint it up.

Ive owed the car for 13 years but I feel its time to move on as I hardly do any mileage and i'l be moving abroad at somepoint.

Are these prices a bubble or is this how things are now?
