looking to buy a second hand car but seller has ad plus VAT

Hi everyone , I am looking at buying a VW shuttle and have found one I like but the seller listed as private sale has listed it plus vat.
I said to my son they cant do that and he said yes they can.
i know i could just add the 20% to the price but is this allowed?
We have noticed many shuttles that appear to be converted transporters but this one appears to be correctly registered as M! so seams to be a real shuttle.
Can you resolve out disagreement can a private seller or any seller sell a car not a van plus VAT.

Shuttles are a grey area as they are considered cars therefore advertised with VAT included but they can also be purchased and the VAT deducted if they are used by a business similar to a van. Having sold a few Shuttles and Vauxhall / Renault 9 seat minibuses over the years we advertise them with the total price but note they are VAT qualifying.

In this case it will be an ex business use vehicle so the VAT can be added to the sale price. If the seller is a genuine private seller I am unsure how he can charge VAT unless he gives you a VAT Invoice with a VAT number.

Maybe worth checking it’s not been on a private hire fleet. You will find a lot of the Shuttles on the market without VAT are ex Motability as they are a big buyer of them.
