Octavia vRS TFSi Mk2 hatch back alternative?
Discussion
I'm not getting on with my Octavia vRS. I have been looking at Vectra 2.0T's but I want to make sure I'm not excluding other cars before I buy one.
I use the Octavia as my daily. I do 18 miles each way to the train station car park 2 days a week, and then the odd trip here and there, sometimes into London, so it needs to be ULEZ compliant. The Octavia has a calculated fuel average of 37.4mpg over the last 1962 miles since I bought it at the end of March. I need something that will do similar. Diesels are excluded as any I can afford cannot travel into London ULEZ free and I don't do enough miles for one.
I'm budgeting £1500 to £2500 to replace the Octavia.
What else should I be considering please?

As above or how about an Alfa.
1.6T 147 Collezione also ULEZ compliant:

1.4T Alfa Mito Veloce 140, the 1.4T is proven & you'll get good fuel numbers.

Not ULEZ compliant but a reliable frugal option is the 1.9d Grand Punto Sporting:

Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out.
Re the size of car, I use it for tip runs and doing the pilgrimage up to Hull to see my mum, hence why I tend to go for something reasonably sized.
2.0T Insignia's are a hard find at your price point but I think they're the pick for your usage.Re the size of car, I use it for tip runs and doing the pilgrimage up to Hull to see my mum, hence why I tend to go for something reasonably sized.

I'm wondering now if an Alfa 159 would fit in my budget. I've never owned an Italian car and the 159 (especially in ti trim) is a very pretty car.
Good cars but they do like front bushes & I'm not sure you'll get the 1.8T for your budget & the N/A cars won't hit your MPG target. The hunt continues.
The Skoda has just passed its MOT so will be going up for sale shortly! In the meantime I have £3k to spend. I still can't seem to see past the Alfa 159 Ti 2.0 JTDM, but I know it's going to suck for my odd trip into London as it's not ULEZ compliant.
My Skoda is currently returning an average of 36.6mpg long term, with daily OBC displaying 40-42mpg (and oddly, it usually under reads) which is good, but I keep having the itch to modify it, and I really don't want to end up with 2 cars that I waste money on. My willpower isn't strong enough!

If you're only talking once or twice a month then it's not the biggest expense, also with a 3k budget you could get a decent Giulietta:

A remap would really wake it up and not really put too much of a dent in the fuel economy. The Skoda has just passed its MOT so will be going up for sale shortly! In the meantime I have £3k to spend. Can transform a mundane car sometimes.
After that I’d tread carefully as you can spend silly money on things that won’t be any use on the road and spoil it too.
