on the way back from prescott yesterday the car suddenely started to misfire and not pull anymore at high revs e.g 40 in 2nd and would also not pull past 60 on the M5 (not good) and sounded like it was missing and just hitting a brick wall.

im going to start over the basics today (dizzy, HT leads etc) but anyone else got any ideas?

I would go for ignition, most likely points/condensor.

I had exactly the same problem afew weeks ago and even posted about it on here.

I have electronic ignition, so after checking the usual bits I gave up (after about 3 weeks of pissing about ) and gave it to my friendly local mechanic who stripped it down and diagnosed simply that the earting contact between the dizzy and the block had loats of crap in it which didn't help, but more importantly the dizzy was not tight against the block and would vibrate at certain rpms, in my case 3100 and then it would misfire and basically not rev any higher as the vibration at that engine speed was causing to earth intermittently.

I wonder if that's your problem?

sorted it now thankfully! (wouldn't make it to silverstone this weekend otherwise!) i'm still using points and there was a large hole burnt through one of them, so new points and condensor and a clean up around the electrics and its running beautifully
