Hi, I have an old Hitachi D230 cassette deck which doesn't work any more, is it worth repairing?

Depends what's wrong with it - It might just need new belts smile

It's a good looking machine but doesn't seem to be massively valuable - I'd say worth repairing yourself if it is just the belts but possibly not worth paying someone else to do it - might be better off selling it as spares or repair if you aren't particularly attached to it.

There's a lot of folk trying to cash in on retro Hi-Fi nostalgia, so why not benefit from that yourself?

If the deck is in decent physical condition then it's worth taking a look inside to see if the belts have perished. Price up some replacements.

Search eBay for completed listings. Price records show some wide variations for similar Hitachi models.

Personally I don't see the appeal of cassette in the 21st century. It's not like vinyl. However, if you can find a couple of suckers to bid against each other then it's better than leaving it to rot in the loft or taking it to the dump.
