Is it a normal occurrence for stones to be stuck in the grooves on the tyres ? If so, is it best just to leave them ?

I also have some minor superficial scratches/lacerations on the thick part of the tyre towards the middle where I'd assume small sharp stones have come in and then back out again. Diameter is literally like 1mm at the most for most of them.

Had the tyres at the garage last week to check for any punctures.

It’s normal.
Leave them, they’ll come out on their own.
Keep an eye on tyre pressures, no need to go to a garage for such a simple task……..

It's normal and no big deal. I sometimes dig them out if I happen to see them as I walk past the car but I wouldn't bother looking for them on purpose.

Agreed. Screws are the things to look out for, they are the bds.

I generally pick them out when cleaning the car. Some of them give that annoying clack clack noise as you drive around.

If you see a screw or nail LEAVE IT IN and visit your local friendly tyre specialist ASAP.

When checking tyre pressure with a gauge, do you lose much air ?

Stones in tread, no problem.

Stones like this, very much a problem, if you leave them there: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

It depends on how incompetent you are with a tyre pressure gauge, I suppose.

Very little is lost. Not noticeable on an analogue dial, unless you hold it there for quite a while.
With a some dials there is a release button, to release air, that is a separate and deliberate action.
With others, it is quite time-consuming to drop even 1 psi by part releasing the gauge.

A car tyre is quite a large volume tyre, so to drop 1psi requires probably 3 to 5 seconds of the valve being open. The 1/10th of a second, at most, that it takes to connect and disconnect a gauge loses an irrelevant volume of air. Even on road bike tyres (bicycle) I’ve not noticed any measurable loss, and there’s a tiny amount of air in that tyre.
