Beat places to visit in Scotland for Anniversary
Discussion
Never been to Scotland.
Been a sucker for the Cotswolds and Lake District.
Going to switch it up.
What’s a romantic place to be?
Scenic walks, scenic drives, picnics, and fishing in case I get bored.
Saw a new screensaver on Apple TV. Isle of Skye. Looks nice.
Thinking 3-5 nights.
Cheers

I'd move about rather than 1 place and try and fit in one of these hotels (budget permitting!)

when do you plan to visit?
how many hours per day are you (& partner) willing to drive?
3-5 days nowhere near long enough - you'll have to come back
upsides: Scotland is beautiful & very varied both in landscape & roads. good fishing is generally available.
downsides: thanks to the internet many of the favourite places are no longer quiet (read full of tourists now) unless you go out of peak hours, depending on location & time of year - midges

I've got family near Lochcarron/Kyle of Lochalsh and spend a few days up there now and again. If you based yourself in that area there are tons of days trips you can do. My family walks usually centre on (amazing beaches) but plenty of hills are available.Been a sucker for the Cotswolds and Lake District.

You can spend two separate days (easily) exploring the different parts of Skye. Diarbaig is a stunning place with beach and hill walks + a brilliant road leading in and out. Applecross (and the Applecross Inn) are obligatory (via the Beallach) and then you've got Plockton, Sheildaig, Badachro etc etc.
I like the coast east of Inverness - Nairn/Cullen/Portsoy is rugged but has nice beaches and plenty of sun. The Spey is nearby for fishing/Whisky tours and you can get there via the A9 or up over the Lecht for a more scenic route.
Edit - fewer midges , which seriously, does make a difference.

Have a look at inveraray. There's a lovely spa hotel on the outskirts of the village, a decent gastropub in the middle (The George) and you're right on Loch Fyne for views, fishing and some lovely roads. Just up the road (15 mins) you've got the original Loch Fyne Oyster Bar and the Fyne Ales brewery. You'll be driving over the Rest and Be Thankful through Glen Croe to get there. Lovely pub with beautiful views of the Arrochar Alps (on a clear day obvs!) at the Village Inn in Arrochar. There's a superb whisky shop in Inveraray too.
Skye's lovely, but it's a ballache to get to. Think of distances in terms of hours rather than miles to get an idea. As an example, GlenCoe is only 50 miles north of me, but I have to blat it to get there in under 80 mins. There's not that many passing places, too many motorhomes, too many coaches and HGVs and a few villages along the way too. Relax and enjoy the views.

You need to spend about 10 X that time to see more of the better parts of the country !
Personally, I love much of the western side of Scotland, although Skye can be a bit commercialised these days. Ideally, do the various islands, but you don't have sufficient days this time - plan for a return that allows more time.
