Delaying registration of a new car

I ordered my new car last July with a promise of delivery in October so I would have got a September registration. Then it looked like I would get it with a March registration, it's now finally in build and I've been told delivery will be beginning of August.

My question is can I ask the supplier to hold on to the car for one month so I can get a new September registration, is that reasonable ? Seems maybe a bit silly but when I ordered the car it was in part to have a new registration that would last for a few months not under five weeks!

I sourced via a broker rather than my local dealer if that makes any difference.

You can ask, but it will depend on whether the supplying dealer is relying on your august car for their figures. If not then the dealer may likely allow it.

Do what makes you happy, just tell them you are away with work and can’t take delivery. Nothing they can do about it.

In that scenario there is nothing preventing them registering the car prior to 1st Sept

No but if you say you don’t want it registered as you can’t collect until sept 1 I don’t think they will mind at all.

It only counts for them when you pay.

Not if they have an August registration target to hit and registering the OP's car means they will hit it!

No it doesn’t. Manufacturers set dealers monthly / quarterly registration targets. When it’s invoiced and paid is irrelevant.

He ordered via a broker so maybe it’s a lease car so it’s definitely feasible to delay.

We need more info but either way you can do it.

Majority of dealers do not have targets currently due to limited stock and not being able to plan targets.

They can certainly push you to take it earlier but you dont have too, As someone else said doesnt mean they wont register it before september if they wanted to but without consent it rarely happens
